The first of the daffodils are starting to appear, the days are edging longer, and it won’t be long until we’re thinking of Easter chocolates! If you’re counting down the seconds until the nights get lighter and the weather gets warmer, then join us as we say goodbye to winter woollens and thick coats and start planning a spring capsule wardrobe.

Spring can be a tricky season to dress for – you never quite know what you’re going to get. Indeed, the weather can change multiple times throughout the day! But with a little clever planning and some versatile essentials, you can layer up and be ready for anything from an Easter heatwave to April showers!

We’re on hand to help you prepare for the arrival of spring with our guide to creating a capsule wardrobe that’s packed with classic pieces that you’ll be reaching for year after year. By choosing a capsule approach, it’s simpler and easier to manage your wardrobe.

Tops and jackets for a spring wardrobe

There are three essentials that should be on your ‘must-have’ list when planning tops and jackets for your spring attire:

    Classic white tee

Not every garment you own needs to be an attention grabber. A classic white t-shirt is a perfect example of a wardrobe essential that lets other items do the talking. It’s the backdrop for other fabulous items, including making your jewellery and accessories stand out.

Once you own a white t-shirt, the only thing left to decide is whether to team it with your favourite skinny jeans or a beautiful boho skirt! It’s one fashion purchase that you will never regret and will take you effortlessly from spring to summer – and beyond. You may even get some real satisfaction from being able to line dry it in the spring sunshine so it stays bright!

    Knitted cardigan

The unpredictable British weather means that one day we can be basking in the sun and the next day shivering in unseasonably low temperatures. This is why a trusty cardigan always forms an essential component of our spring wardrobe. You can put it on and take it off as regularly as the weather changes its mind.

Throw on a cardigan over a cami or tee on cooler days – and simply shrug off if things heat up. Our kathywilliamsmarketing shop carries a range of cardies from longline styles to cute cropped ones.

    Must-have blazers

Blazers are every spring wardrobe’s secret weapon, giving you endless outfit possibilities that are perfect for weekends and throughout the working week. You can use them to dress up or even dress down; they are a wonder item!

There are styles to flatter every body shape from tailored, waist-cinching blazers to slouchy ‘boyfriend’ styles that will carry you from spring to summer.

And if you’re feeling really daring – rock a blazer as a mini-dress and steal the style of celebs like Taylor Swift and Priyanka Chopra who have both bossed it in blazers on the red carpet!

Jeans and trousers for a spring wardrobe

Your spring wardrobe isn’t complete without at least one pair of indigo jeans, a pair of black trousers and some comfortable loungewear pants.

    Slim-fit jeans

A pair of go-to jeans is the most essential component of the perfect capsule wardrobe. Opt for a classic slim-fitting pair to give you the most versatility to go with all your other spring staples. While mom jeans are pushing in, there’s still a much-loved place for slim-fitting jeans too.

Our top tip for spring is to choose a dark-wash pair that is smart enough to team with your blazer and a white tee for dress-down day at the office or to wear with killer heels and a sequined top for a big night out with the girls.

    Black cropped trousers

If the weather is kind to us this spring, slim-fitting black cropped trousers work perfectly with sandals or espadrilles for a stylish look.

They also team equally as well with knee-high boots for when the inevitable rain falls – or can be worn effortlessly with ballet pumps and flats for a casual weekend look.

Wear with a blazer and vest top for a relaxed spring vibe and add some statement accessories and designer sunnies to complete the look.

    Comfortable loungewear

Spring is not all about dressing up and going out. Sometimes chilling on the sofa with a bucket of popcorn and a boxset is just what the doctor ordered. So a pair of slouchy joggers should always be on your list of capsule wardrobe must-haves to team with a vest or baggy sweatshirt. Especially on the lingering winter-like spring days, sometimes you just need your comfiest items.

    Dress it up!

Spring and dresses are the perfect combination – and can be worn with thick tights or bare legs, depending on the weather. It’s time to get summer ready, and summer excited!

    Maxi dresses

Unleash your inner boho babe with a vibrantly patterned maxi dress and feel free-spirited this spring.

Alexa Chung and Poppy Delevigne have both recently rocked the floaty frock look, so you’ll be in excellent company with the addition of a maxi dress to your spring wardrobe. Bold colours and paisley prints are big this season – so check out our range of larger-than-life patterned dresses and make a big statement.

    Midi dresses

Nothing heralds the arrival of spring like a pretty, floral-printed midi-dress. A midi works equally as well with thick tights and chunky ankle boots or wedged sandals for a truly versatile wardrobe investment. Of course, you can pop on your blazer or a cardi if there’s a chill in the air.

This minimal maintenance look can be completed with a denim jacket or longline cardigan on cooler evenings.
