Work From Home Outfits

Many of us have been working from home recently, and while our home may not have a dress code, and there may not be any face-to-face meetings to dress up for, the right outfit can set us up for the day.

Need some help getting inspired? Here’s our guide on what to wear when working at home, with examples beautifully showcased by our fabulous influencers.

Comfort is Key

If the Kardashians have taught us anything, it’s that no-one should be afraid to rock a stylish pair of sweatpants. But can we take standard loungewear to that next level? We think so. If working from home has taught us one thing, it’s that comfort and style aren’t mutually exclusive.

Hannah Crosskey

Hannah Crosskey looks effortlessly chic in her matching sweats, hand-dyed in a lighter-than-light pink. By coordinating her separates, she’s pulled off a look that’s comfy and cohesive. We’d also like to give a shoutout to her pink nail polish - after all, attention to detail is key!

Kayleigh J Couture

If you’re concerned about being ‘matchy-matchy’, take a leaf out of Kayleigh J. Couture’s book and combine complementing neutral tones. Kayleigh’s nude, ribbed crop-top is casual but looks expensive, plus it goes perfectly with her beige trousers. There’s enough subtle variation in the colours that everything goes, but you can still appreciate each piece in its own right (bonus points for Kayleigh’s matching bag).

Gemma Talbot

That’s right - tie-dye is back, and this quintessentially ‘90s look can now confidently be considered retro. The fit of Gemma Talbot’s outfit is casual and breezy, and that slightly muted green ensures the whole look isn’t too over the top. Gemma tie-dyed this Topshop loungewear set herself - a perfect lockdown craft project don’t you think?

The Art of Smart-Casual

Dressing more formally when working from home can help us feel like our most productive selves. Keep things simple with classy outfits that are smart but fuss-free. A classic example is a plain blouse or t-shirt with high-waisted and slightly loose-fitting trousers. This means you can move around your home office with ease - and still be prepared for that impromptu Zoom call with the team!

Anisa Sojka

Anisa Sojka’s smart-casual ensemble is a thoroughly modern take on two fashion staples: monochrome and the plain white tee. By nipping her t-shirt in at the waist, Anisa’s outfit is simple yet elegant and form-fitting. While she’s chosen to forgo accessories, feel free to jazz up your look with a necklace or statement belt.

Melis Ekrem

When it comes to a smart-casual look, denim is a worthy contender. We personally recommend white or black denim - either option is incredibly versatile and appears more formal than a classic pair of blue jeans.

Melis Ekrem shows us how to make an all-white look feel fresh and contemporary. Her high-waisted white jeans are cut-off at the ankle to elongate her legs (especially with those heeled sandals). Finished with a slightly-crumpled white blouse, Melis’ outfit is laid-back, work-appropriate, and perfect for Summer.

Let it Flow

Working from home or not, warmer weather is just around the corner. So go with the flow, whether it’s a maxi-dress or a midi-skirt you’re drawn to. Fabrics such as chiffon, linen, and cotton allow you to cover up whilst remaining cool and comfortable. Lydia Tomlinson’s summer dress (paired with white trainers) is a classic example of keeping things cute and easy whilst also feeling ‘dressed up’.

A flowy shirt can add a little va-va-voom to the most casual of outfits. Take Grace Victory’s boyfriend-style white shirt, paired with blue jeans and a gypsy-style top. The oversized shirt makes this classic combination feel like a head-to-toe outfit, and you can just tell she feels gorgeous in it.

You’re the Boss

We’d like to round off this article with an ode to individual style. Some of the most iconic trends came from fashionistas marching to the beat of their own drum. At times we may wonder if we’re playing it safe with our day-to-day wardrobe. Fortunately, working from home is the perfect opportunity to try something daring and creative. So why not take that chance while you still can? After all, when you work from home, you’re the office boss!

Felicity Hayward

You know what they say about florals (“for Spring? Groundbreaking...”) but we think this print offers something for everyone. Just take Felicity Hayward, who dressed herself up for lunch (her words) with this bold floral dress. The colour palette and unusual print makes florals vibrant and fun without being too ‘girly-girl.’
