what is greenwashing

No, this isn’t some new natural skincare treatment taking over TikTok, greenwashing is about environmental ethics – or the lack thereof.

Increasingly, people are becoming more and more aware of the impact that their purchasing decisions have on the planet. Ditching the fast fashion and opting to endorse the circular economy instead, shoppers are choosing ethically made clothing that doesn’t harm the planet.

With a demand for ethical shopping comes more ethical and sustainable businesses, but also businesses attempting to capitalise on the growing desire for sustainable products without actually changing their business models. In this blog, we guide you through everything you need to know about greenwashing, including what it actually is, why greenwashing is bad, how businesses can avoid greenwashing and how kathywilliamsmarketing are tackling greenwashing.

What is greenwashing?

Greenwashing is when a company makes false claims about how environmentally sound their business, products and services are in order to attract customers who are conscious about sustainability.

This can involve perpetuating a completely false narrative about the environmental impact of a company, or exaggerating the environmentally friendly aspects of a business and ignoring those that are not eco-conscious. Whether this be the way in which the products are made or how materials are sourced, some aspects of the business are concealed.

Intended to deceive, greenwashing portrays a company as more environmentally sound than it actually is, hiding the damaging aspects of the business. In these instances, a company portrays their environmentally sound practices as their entire business foundation – and consequently their business as a ‘green’ one.

Oftentimes, companies that are in essence fast fashion brands – when clothing is mass produced for low cost using unsustainable methods to get it to stores quicker – try to hide this part of their business model by emphasising the more sustainable parts of their business. Sometimes, they even wrongfully claim to be part of the circular economy, a model of production and consumption that uses sustainable methods such as refurbishing, recycling and sharing of materials and products. However, consumers are becoming more and more aware of greenwashing and its consequences.

Why is greenwashing bad?

Greenwashing is inherently wrong as it exploits customers’ good intentions. Companies that are guilty of greenwashing capitalise on the environmental ethics of their customers in an attempt to sell more products, sometimes at a higher price.

Products that are ‘green’ – sustainable, vegan or natural – usually cost more to produce. As green companies avoid production methods that are harmful to the planet or unethical, as well as committing to sourcing materials in a sustainable way, these products are often charged at a premium.

The problem comes when companies claim to use these planet-friendly sourcing and production methods, but in fact stick with their methods that aren’t sustainable. Highly unethical, greenwashing is deceitful and attempts to use a ‘green façade' in order to charge customers more money, and secure more sales with those who are environmentally conscious.

How to avoid greenwashing

Inadvertent greenwashing is a major problem – where brands don’t necessarily set out to lie to their customers, but conceal some parts of their business model from them. Here’s how to avoid greenwashing as a business.

1. Transparency is key

When trying to avoid inadvertent greenwashing, it is essential to be fully transparent with your consumers about the nature of your business. This includes every aspect of your business, from sourcing materials and producing items all the way through to packaging and shipping methods.

Transparency when setting sustainability goals is essential too. What do you want to achieve? When do you want to achieve it? How will you achieve it?

2. Use data to give credibility to claims

Whatever claims you are making about the planet-friendly nature of your business, it’s incredibly important to back them up with accurate statistics. If you claim to source your materials in a sustainable way, how do you source them? Where do you source them from? Are the workers paid fairly?

Any ‘green’ claims that you can’t back up with more information and data, consider whether they actually apply to your company at all.

3. Advertise your product and ethics, not someone else’s

Advertising campaigns are where a lot of greenwashing occurs. With social media in particular being such a huge advertising platform with immense reach, it’s important to ensure that the information you present to potential customers is accurate.

Don’t claim to be a vegan company if you haven’t become a certified vegan company with the likes of The Vegan Society. The same goes for claiming to be sustainable if you in fact use a fast fashion business model.

Your advertising needs to be 100% accurate to your product and company, not what you hope it will become.

How is kathywilliamsmarketing challenging greenwashing?

We know how important it is to operate with transparency and recognise our responsibility to operate in a way that is the most eco-friendly and sustainable. Find out how kathywilliamsmarketing is challenging the notion of greenwashing and presenting a sustainable alternative for consumers.

Preloved not produced

At kathywilliamsmarketing, we don’t produce the clothes and items we sell on our site. Each and every item sold is preloved from one of the UK’s leading influencers and bloggers. Instead of allowing their unused clothes to go to waste and end up in landfill, we help them find a home where they will be much loved and worn time and time again.

Not only is preloved clothing more sustainable as it uses no materials to produce, it is also more affordable for customers. In this time of financial struggle, we are happy to be able to offer influencer-approved clothing at more affordable prices.

Donating unsold clothes

Another way that we stay true to our values and beliefs is to donate unsold clothes and those that aren’t fit for sale to charity

Any clothes we receive that aren't fit for sale, or haven't sold after being on our site for three months, are donated to local charities to help those in need. One of our partner charities whom we have donated pieces to is Smart Works Reading.

Smart Works donate clothes to women in order to provide work appropriate outfits, styling advice and interview coaching to help them succeed at interviews. This helps them to then move forward with their lives.

how to style a blazer

The perfect mediator between smart and casual, blazers are a staple that should be in every wardrobe. Whether you choose classic colours or bold and bright patterns, there’s a blazer to suit you.

From leather blazers and blazers over dresses to the classic black blazer, the opportunities are endless when it comes to styling a blazer. Discover our top tips on how to style a blazer for every look.

How to wear a blazer

Blazers can instantly elevate a look, taking a simple ‘jeans and a nice top’ to a night out worthy look. From wedding-worthy blazer combinations to chic casual blazer looks, kathywilliamsmarketing has all the information you need to style a blazer for any look.

How to style an oversize blazer

The oversized blazer absolutely screams smart casual – whatever that actually means. Adding a touch of youthful trend to your casual jeans, this is the perfect way to style a blazer casually. With this look, comfort is absolutely key.

Style pick: pair the Zara Brown Plaid Oversized Blazer with some casually chic Lindex Blue High Waisted Wide Leg Jeans.

How to style a leather blazer

Leather blazers are in and here to stay. A gorgeous vegan leather blazer is the new staple for your wardrobe – and choosing brown over black can completely elevate your look. Add in some blue jeans, black boots and a simple top for maximum impact.

Style pick: we absolutely adore the New Look Brown Vegan Leather Blazer with a pair of Nasty Gal Blue Straight Leg Denim Jeans for an easy yet stylish look.

How to wear a blazer with jeans

There’s a few options when it comes to pairing a blazer with jeans: you can keep it classic with neutral tones or opt for patterns and colours. What we’re really saying is that providing you choose the right top and shoes, there are not many blazers you can’t pull off with jeans.

1. Camel or beige blazer with blue jeans

Many people’s staple blazer combo is a camel blazer with medium- or light-wash jeans. Casual but still chic, this combination dresses up your more casual jeans and makes all the difference. Light coloured tops work especially well with this duo – just keep things simple.

Style pick: add the Pretty Lavish Beige Blazer to some Mint Velvet Blue Washed Jeans to smarten up the look.

2. Neutral blazer with bold jeans

Neutral coloured blazers provide the perfect opportunity to let your style shine with a pair of beautifully bold jeans. Opt for bright colours, exuberant prints or embroidered patterns to showcase your personality and killer sense of style. Keep your top basic and choose your footwear based on the jeans you pick.

Style pick: pair the Vestire Beige Blazer with Fiorucci Pink Milano Angels Denim Jeans, a classic white tee and some white heels.

3. Coloured blazer with blue jeans

Wearing a coloured blazer doesn’t need to be difficult to style. Stick with some classic blue jeans and break out your favourite colourful blazer. Make sure the colours don’t clash, and keep the light-wash jeans for a different blazer. A great combination is a dark green blazer with your staple blue jeans.

Style pick: choose the Everlane Blue 90s Jeans and add the Stylestalker Burgundy Double Breasted Blazer for a splash of colour.

4. Fitted blazer with black jeans

The fitted blazer is timeless. Pair a dark fitted or tailored blazer with some black jeans, and you’re on to a winner. Whether you prefer high waisted or mid rise, a tailored or fitted blazer works perfectly. This is your opportunity to bring out the stripes: choose a striped top and embrace the nautical look.

Style pick: opt for the New Look Black Tailored Blazer with some NA-KD Black Comfort Mom Jeans and a simple striped top.

How to wear a white blazer

A complete style statement, a white blazer can instantly elevate your look to new heights. Oozing class, the white blazer is an elegant way of adding that extra something to a professional look.

Choosing a white blazer over light colours keeps everything streamlined and looking classy. We love the look of a sleek white blouse and a beige or cream pencil skirt with some white heels. Reserving your white blazer for more formal occasions keeps you ahead of the style competition.

Style pick: pair the Mossman White Take The Lead Blazer with a classy pencil skirt, blouse and some heels.

How to wear a black blazer

One of the original wardrobe staples, a black blazer is a must have for smartening up a look. The options are pretty much endless when it comes to wearing a black blazer. From business meetings to dinners out and with jeans to a full suit, you can add a black blazer for most occasions.

A look we love is adding a black blazer over a chunky knit or roll neck jumper to keep you cosy but still smart. Jeans of all colours can be styled with a black blazer, and smart skirts and shorts work well too.

Style pick: pair the 4th & Reckless Black Tailored Blazer with some stylish leather shorts, knee-high black boots and the Eleven Six Cream Cable Knit Sweater for a trendy take on the black blazer.

How to wear a blazer with a dress

Dresses with blazers are a great way to make your look more formal, while still being comfortable. The possibilities here are huge: coloured, patterned, striped and sequined blazers to go with every type of dress you can imagine – there’s a combination to suit your style!

Style pick: add the Nasty Gal Green Striped Oversized Blazer over a black midi dress for a pop of colour.

How long should blazer sleeves be?

Full length blazer sleeves should sit around where your hand meets your wrist for the best fit. However, there are other sleeve lengths that offer great styling possibilities.

Three-quarter length blazer sleeves are becoming increasingly popular, and some blazers have short sleeves. Which you choose depends on the occasion, the look you’re trying to achieve and most certainly the weather!

winter hair

It’s cold, it’s blustery and it’s frosty. While the winter months bring festive cheer, mulled wine and cosy knits, it also brings harsh conditions for your hair.

Many people notice changes in their hair over the winter months – including dryness and hair loss – so you aren’t alone! We spend more time than ever indoors with the heating on in winter and when we venture outside, we’re battling with the elements.

We’ve brought together a list of our absolute essentials when it comes to haircare in winter, share our top tips for healthy hair in winter, and discuss the common winter hair problems people face.

Tips for winter haircare

We all know that our skincare routine needs to change in the winter months to accommodate for the icy air mixed with the central heating. But the same is true for your hair. From dry and static hair to frizzy hair and hair loss, winter is a tough time for your locks.

We’ve included our top tips for healthy hair in winter to help you to keep your locks shiny and moisturised in the cooler months.

1. Avoid washing your hair too often

While washing your hair cleans away the dirt and build up in your hair, it also strips your hair of its natural oils in the process. These natural oils help to protect the hair from day to day wear and tear by protecting the hair follicles.

Stick to washing your hair just two or three times a week rather than daily or every two days in the winter months.

2. Don’t have the water too hot in the shower

We know how comforting a hot shower can feel when it’s frosty outside, but overly hot water is known to strip the scalp of its natural oils, dry out the scalp and cause dandruff, make your hair overly porous leading to brittleness and weakening your roots.

Contributing to breakage, dryness and frizziness, the hot and steamy shower just isn’t worth it if you’re wanting to look after your hair.

Turn down the temperature a few notches – you’ll still be in nicely warm water – to reduce the effects of hot water on your hair. Depending on how brave you feel, you could even go all Wim Hof and opt for a cold shower.

3. Use a hair mask to nourish your locks

Using a nourishing hair mask or treatment once or twice a week in the colder months can help to add life back into dull hair. Hair masks contain a wealth of concentrated moisturising ingredients that can help to repair your locks and add shine.

4. Use an oil treatment to keep your roots happy

As moisture is sapped out of your hair in winter by the cool weather and central heating indoors, your roots and scalp take the brunt of the damage. Using an oil treatment on your hair can help to repair this damage by adding a hit of much-needed moisture and sealing the gaps in your hair strands.

Choose products that contain deeply nourishing oils such as argan oil, jojoba oil and coconut oil. Hair oils can be used before washing, on damp hair and on dry hair – so there’s no excuse not to use it!

5. Keep up to date with your trims

It might be the last thing you feel like doing in the cold weather, but heading to a salon and getting your hair trimmed regularly is a great way to keep your locks in tip top shape. You’ll remove the split ends that can cause further damage to your hair and your locks will feel thicker too.

6. Conditioning is the name of the game

Like oil treatments and hair masks, deep conditioning treatments are a great way to soothe dry and itchy scalps and add moisture back into dry hair. Make sure the deep conditioner you choose is packed full of nourishing oils and moisturising ingredients.

Common winter hair problems and how to help

Now that we’ve explained how you can look after your hair in winter, it’s time to address some of the common concerns that people face with their hair in winter. From dryness and frizziness to hair loss, many people experience some kind of difficulty with their hair in winter.

1. Hair loss in winter

If you typically only experience hair loss in winter and not in any other season, it’s likely to be due to the harsh cool air taking away the moisture and drying out your locks. Dry hair is more prone to damage, breakage and ultimately hair loss.

Hair falling out in winter can massively impact a person’s confidence and the way they see themselves. If this is something you’re dealing with, it’s important to know that you certainly aren’t alone and that hair loss solely in winter isn’t permanent.

To combat the dryness that leads to hair loss in winter, the moisturising treatments we discussed earlier are a great place to start. Whether you opt for a hair mask, oil treatment, deep conditioner or all three at different times, moisturised locks are less likely to become damaged and break off.

2. Frizzy hair in winter

Many people find that their hair becomes frizzy in the winter months. If you aren’t used to frizzy hair but find yourself with frizzy hair in winter, it’s important to remember that frizz is often caused by dry hair.

Slather on your deep conditioner and make sure you are using a moisturising shampoo and conditioner. Winter also might be the time to lay off the heat styling if you find yourself dealing with frizzy hair that is hard to control. While heat helps to style your locks, it also contributes to drying them out.

3. Dry hair in winter

Dry hair is probably the biggest hair woe in winter, with the icy air then centrally heated buildings sapping all of the moisture from the hair. While it is a common winter haircare worry, dry hair can be rejuvenated with the right products.

Deep conditioning treatments will be your best friend if you suffer from dry hair in winter.

Top tip: wear a hat in winter to keep your hair protected from the harsh conditions and yourself warm.

is alcohol bad for skincare? woman with skincare face mask on

Each new year sees new skincare trends with the latest products and newest methods. Some work fantastically well and leave you with glowing skin, and some go terribly wrong and can leave you with acne, damaged skin and scarring.

It’s no surprise that a whole host of the skincare trends of 2022 started on TikTok. From skin cycling and pore vacuums to slugging and sunscreen contouring, TikTok skincare trends took over the internet in 2022.

We have compiled a list of the skincare trends that we won’t be bringing into 2023, as well as a list of our most frequently asked questions when it comes to skincare trends.

Skincare trends we’re leaving in 2022

Some skincare trends, including DIY everything, claim to save time and money, but end up damaging your skin in the long run. Before jumping on the trending skincare train, do your own research to check it won’t be detrimental to your skin.

Find out which trends we’re leaving in 2022:

1. Slugging

Slugging definitely took TikTok – and then the whole beauty community – by storm this year. For anyone not familiar with slugging, it involves using petroleum-based moisturising products like Vaseline to cover the skin overnight.

This skincare trend does have some benefits such as glowing and extremely hydrated skin, but it also has many drawbacks – earning it a place on our list of trends not to take into 2023. For slugging to work, you need to use a very thick layer of the product, all over your skin.

This thick barrier on the skin very easily clogs pores as dirt, debris, and dead skin cells have nowhere to go and become trapped. Clogged pores can exacerbate acne, giving you another issue to solve.

Products containing active ingredients such as hyaluronic acid are a great alternative to slugging, as they provide the hit of moisture you need without having to coat a thick layer of product on your skin.

2. Sunscreen contouring

Another TikTok skincare trend, sunscreen contouring involves applying higher factor SPFs to the high points of the face, and lower factor SPFs to the low points of the face. Hoping to achieve a natural sculpting without the need for contouring with makeup, sunscreen contouring ignores the very real risk of sun damage.

A high factor sunscreen should be worn on the face every single day, even in winter. We all know the risks of sun damage, but they aren’t reserved for prolonged periods spent in the blazing sun. This skincare trend not only can cause premature wrinkling, actinic keratosis and sunburn, it can severely impact overall health.

For the sake of two minutes spent contouring with makeup, it simply isn’t worth it to chance the sun damage.

3. DIY skin treatments

Understandably with the financial climate, some people choose to try and DIY their favourite products and treatments to save a few pennies. Sometimes this works as an absolute treat and you can end up with some really great products that you've made yourself.

However, sometimes it doesn’t work so well. Find out which DIY skincare treatments and products we’re leaving in 2022.

DIY microneedling and dermarolling

A sure fire way to end up damaging your skin, many people started to attempt DIY dermarolling and microneedling treatments this year.

Any time someone other than a trained professional uses a device with tiny needles on their face, it’s probably not going to end well. This treatment creates tiny open wounds on the face to stimulate the production of collagen.

Trying microneedling or dermarolling at home may be less expensive, but it might cost you with scarring, infection and damaged skin.

DIY dermaplaning

Similar to DIY microneedling and dermarolling, DIY dermaplaning also involves using something sharp on your face while not having proper training. With this skincare trend, you could be left with small nicks, scratches and cuts. This can then easily cause an infection.

Stick to professional dermaplaning where these risks are considerably lower.

DIY scrubs and masks

Many people have tried to make a DIY scrub or face mask at some point to save money. While some scrubs could be successful in exfoliating, they can take it too far and damage your skin.

For example, exfoliating with just coffee grounds is way too harsh on your skin. Many DIY masks use ingredients that don't work well with your skin or are simply too harsh. Stick to skincare from trusted brands to avoid damaging your skin.

What to avoid in skincare – FAQs

The world of skincare can be very confusing at times. Some people love one product and others hate it; some people get along with perfume in skincare and others don’t; and some people can tolerate alcohol in skincare whereas others can’t.

We’ve brought together some of our most frequently asked questions about skincare dos and don’ts:

Is alcohol bad for skincare?

Unfortunately this isn’t as simple as ‘yes’ or ‘no’ – there are good alcohols and bad alcohols for the skin.

The good alcohols – typically ingredients with cetyl, stearyl, cetearyl and propylene glycol – can actually be nourishing for the skin. However, alcohols considered bad – including isopropyl, denatured and SD alcohols – can cause irritation.

Are essential oils in skincare bad?

While essential oils make a room or your face cream smell lovely, the fragrance in them can be irritating to the skin. Despite some essential oils having some great skincare properties like being antibacterial and antioxidant, they can still cause irritation and damage to the skin.

What are the bad chemicals in skincare?

There are too many toxic and bad chemicals in skincare to list here, but some of the main things to watch out for in your products include: parabens, sulphates and phthalates.

Is perfume in skincare bad?

Fragrance can be natural or synthetic, and many fragrance molecules combine together to make a desired scent, which is usually just labelled as ‘perfume’ or ‘fragrance’ on a skincare product.

Some of these molecules can be damaging to the skin and cause irritation such as cinnamal, isoeugenol, limonene and linalool. As each component of the fragrance doesn’t need to be listed, many people avoid fragranced products all together.

winter skirts

The chance to wear
winter skirts are one of the fashion highlights of the colder months. From long winter skirts that keep you snug and cosy on the coldest days to winter mini skirts perfect for a night out, skirts in winter are a versatile way of creating a winter outfit that you’ll love.

However, women’s winter skirts need a little know-how when it comes to styling – shivering because of a wrong pairing can leave you looking and feeling anything but glam. So, read on to learn how to wear a skirt in the winter.

The number one rule for wearing skirts in winter

Before we crack on with different styles and fashion combos from our influencers to emulate, let’s cover the basic rule of how to wear a skirt in the winter: layering is key.

Whether you choose a winter midi skirt or a skater skirt, winter skirt outfits are all about layers. Underneath the skirt should be tights or funky long length socks and you’ll keep warm by having various layers on your top half.

Let’s move onto the different winter skirt outfits

How to wear a midi skirt in winter

Skimming your mid-calf, we recommend choosing ankle or mid-length boots with your midi winter skirt. Choose a midi skirt with a small swing and wear close-fitting tailored tops.

How to wear a pleated midi skirt in winter

For the perfect swing, choose a pleated midi skirt. These skirts are excellent for a posh meal out or meeting friends in the bar after work.

Choose a rich solid colour to accentuate the pleats and pair with a tight plain top and a leather jacket – you’ll have the look everyone’s talking about.

How to wear long skirts in winter

The winter maxi skirt is a staple of your winter wardrobe. Choose a thick material to define the look and keep you snug in the cooler months. They work well with trainers for casual days, but ankle boots get a look in too.

Long skirts in winter are always in. Avoid a winter maxi skirt that’s too long as it’ll drag along the damp pavement and lead to an uncomfortable and unsightly result.

How to style a mini skirt in winter

Don’t think mini skirts are out just because it’s winter. Winter 2022/23 is seeing a resurgence of the mini skirt.

Winter mini skirts were a 1990s staple and so it’s no surprise that they are back with a vengeance. Choose thicker tights for warmth and anything from tartan to denim are a go. Wear over-the-knee or long boots to look positively glam.

How to wear a leather skirt in winter

Leather is a fabulous fabric for winter skirts as it’s both warm and mostly waterproof. It’s the easy way to look stylish while being practical. We love a leather pencil skirt for the office, which will also keep you cosy on the commute.

Your leather pencil skirt will look great with a tight fitting long-sleeved tee in a plain contrasting colour. Heels are perfect here!

How to wear a skater skirt in winter

Skater skirts are hugely versatile and excellent for your winter wardrobe. Choose above the knee jersey skirts paired with trainers (or ice skates!) and a winter knit for a casual look. Alternatively, we love a below knee skater skirt combined with a denim jacket and ankle boots.

How to wear a white skirt in winter

It’s no secret that wearing a white skirt in winter can be a little risky. There’s more chance of dirt from the splash of traffic on the commute or the spill of red wine on a night out.

But, in the right scenario, a white skirt in winter is splendidly chic. Just choose your occasion wisely! Opt for a pleated midi wrap skirt for a night out with the girls, or choose a white mini and pair with starkly contrasting black tights.

What to wear with a denim skirt in winter

It’s impossible to imagine making it through the winter months without your trusty denim skirt. The denim maxi skirt is back in fashion, or reach for a denim mini or pencil skirt too.

Working perfectly with the continued trend of crisp white trainers, you can have fun with your top. Choose a chunky knit for the cosiest look or glam up for a night out with a sparkly top.

How to wear a slip skirt in winter

Slip skirts can be a little tricky in winter because they are typically made from lighter fabrics. However, in winter they pair well with warmer tights and are perfect for warmer environments such as the centrally-heated office or the house party with friends.

Always pick a smart close fitting top, although bubble-hem tops work with slip skirts too.

How to wear a satin skirt in winter

The same issues apply to a satin skirt as a slip skirt, but satin skirts can be the perfect winter outfit choice for a Christmas party, Valentine’s Day or other celebration.

Choose a midi length and pair it with ankle boots. On the top, contrast the satin style with a large knit sweater. Trendy trench coats work well too.

What shoes to wear with skirts in winter

The rules of skirts plus shoes in winter are completely relaxed at the moment. Whatever shoes take your fancy, you can pair them with a skirt.

Trainers work fantastically with all skirts, and slinky heels are popular for glamming up your look. Knee length boots are still clinging on, but ankle boots are more this season’s favourite. Midi skirts need a little more thought and you should favour ankle boots here.

Accessories will complete your skirt styling, from a chunky belt to a cosy scarf.

winter skincare

Winter is a tough time for your skin. Cold blasts as you step out onto wintry streets, followed by dry centrally heated homes and offices. It’s a tough skin challenge. Are you worried about keeping your skin in great condition during the winter months and need the best winter skincare tips?

Look no further, as we have all the answers you need! From creating a winter skin care routine to finding the best winter skincare products, we will share all the information you are looking for. So, sit back, cosy up, and read our handy guide.

Why you need to think about winter skin care

One of the first things that may come to mind when thinking about caring for your skin in winter is why you need to bother. The simple answer is that as the temperatures change, the weather gets worse, and the central heating gets cranked up, your skin gets drier and is more prone to cracking and becoming sore. What’s more, winter is less forgiving in that we tend to socialise under brighter artificial lighting and attend workplaces under bright lights rather than summer’s naturally kinder option. Any skin issues are more on show! Each season brings its own challenges for the skin, but winter is particularly challenging.

For many people, this means learning how to adapt their skincare routine for the winter so that you can look your best without worrying about the weather. It's also a time when the combination of central heating and windy weather works to dry your skin out, leaving it desperate for moisture and hydration. Ultimately, looking after your skin in winter is the best way to keep your face looking on top form!

Our top winter skin care tips

Rather than changing up your entire routine, take a look at our top three winter skincare tips to help you look your best:

Drink lots of water

It may sound obvious, but keeping hydrated is vital during the winter as it will help your skin to repair itself and stay plump and fresh. Doing this from the inside out is your number one free skincare weapon! Try to drink water that is at room temperature or tepid to help your body process it quickly and use it to hydrate your skin.

Invest in quality products

Beauty products can seem expensive, but take the time to find the brand and products that work best for you and invest in them to get the look you want. Most quality products only require a small amount per use, making them last longer than cheaper solutions. Going for chemical laden watered down cheaper alternatives often make your skin worse.

Stick to your routine

Once you have the right products, you will need to use them daily as per your skincare routine to get the best results. Doing this will train your skin and ensure you get the best levels of cleansing and moisture each day. Don’t chop and change. Stick to your routine. Your skin will thank you.

Picking out the best winter skincare products doesn't mean spending all your savings on every item you see. Instead, invest in the basics to begin with and then add in extras when needed. Plus, when you buy from kathywilliamsmarketing, you’ll get brand-new products at a fraction of the high street price.

The best beauty products to start with include cleansers, toners, exfoliators, moisturisers and masks. You can also source special serums to deal with any specific skin complaints you may be suffering from too. Serums are must-have products all year, but particularly important in winter.

Once you have purchased your products, take the time to read the advice on the bottle or packaging so that you use it in the best way to get the results you want.

Best winter skin care routine

If you aren't sure how to approach a skincare routine, then don't worry, we've got you covered! Our simple and effective routine is listed below, and you can add or remove parts to suit your specific needs:

Clean your face daily

Cleansing is the first and most important step of your routine as it removes all the dirt, makeup and build-up from the day. Take time to cover your entire face and work your cleanser into a good lather to ensure your face is properly clean.

Exfoliate once a week

Getting rid of dead skin cells is a great way to brighten your skin. Find a suitable exfoliator and add it to your routine at least once per week. Exfoliating buffs away the dead skin cells and grime and gives you a naturally radiant look.

Indulge in a face mask

Another great way to inject extra moisture or combat a specific skin problem is to use a face mask once a week too. Pick the best mask for your skin type, and follow the instructions carefully to get the best results.

Tone your skin

Once your face is clean and scrubbed, sweep some toner across your face to tighten your pores and stop bacteria from creating skin problems.

Finish with moisture

Finally, remember to dab and swirl your moisturiser onto your face to finish. There are plenty of great moisturisers to choose from. We recommend you pick one that offers UV protection even in winter, protecting your skin from the harsh outdoors. A serum is also particularly important in the winter months.

Choose the best winter skincare products from kathywilliamsmarketing

If you are keen to reinvent your winter skincare routine and want the best winter skincare essentials, then our products are a great place to start. From cleansers and toners to serums, moisturisers and masks, we have everything you could possibly need to achieve the best winter skincare outcomes as a fraction of the RRP.

new years eve outfits

At
kathywilliamsmarketing, we’re after any excuse to party! And New Year’s Eve is the biggest and best partying excuse of them all.

Planning our New Year’s Eve party outfit fills us with such excitement – and there are more New Year’s Eve outfit ideas than it’s fair to shake a sparkler at! But with cost of living rises making us feel the pinch, and the poorer post-Christmas days to face, can we still have fun picking a NYE outfit that we will love?

Absolutely! With some savvy thinking and help from us here at kathywilliamsmarketing, we can make sure that you have fun choosing your NYE outfit, whatever the style of the event. From casual winter warmer New Year’s Eve outfits to dashing combos for the gents, read on for cost-effective inspo.

Women’s New Year’s Eve outfits

Heralding in the New Year, let’s start with the ladies first.

New Year’s Eve parties to bring in 2023 with a bang look set to be hugely varied in their style. With our ear to the ground, we’re hearing everything from plans for low-key outdoor fire pit shindigs through to glamorous city centre cocktail affairs. So, you’ll need to start by choosing your outfit accordingly.

Make a statement to start the New Year

When it comes to the classic NYE party, you can’t beat the classic New Year’s Eve outfit – the mini dress. You just can’t go wrong; it says you’re ready for a great night and sure to be the heart and soul of the party.

Add sparkle with jewellery

Whether you want to elevate your formal wear to reflect the best night of the year or you want to add a little extra to your jeans and sparkly top, jewellery is the answer. NYE is the time to dazzle, so choose the glitziest sparkiest jewels and adornments.

Pop on the heels

With the trainer trend still in full swing, we now need excuses to wear heels and NYE is the best excuse of all! Glam up any NYE outfit that you’ve chosen with a pair of divine heels

We’ve got tonnes of preloved shoes that are as good as new for a fraction of the RRP. Make your budget go further with kathywilliamsmarketing.

Go casual with NYE knitwear

It might be a legacy of Covid, but it turns out that we just love an outdoor-indoor NYE house party. Expect casual house party vibes where you wander outside for warming glasses of mulled wine and chats around the fire.

For this, your sparkly tops aren’t going to work. Opt for the cosiest knitwear to keep you snug and stylish.

Play it safe with co-ords

Sometimes you’re not quite sure what to expect from a NYE celebration until you actually get there. You don’t want to go too dressy and stand out for the wrong reasons, or be too casual and feel awkward.

If you’re not sure what’s happening on the party scene, choosing co-ords is a great way to play it safe. You’ll prove you are nailing this fashion trend which is here to stay for 2023.

Grab a new top

The simplest of women’s New Year’s Eve outfits is to pair a fab new top with black or white jeans. It’s classy, it’s simple and you’ll feel fabulous. It’s sometimes tricky to make a top look smart. Go for preloved luxury items that are in the best condition. This way you avoid fast-fashion that tends to fit poorly.

Love NYE in the skin you’ve got

We know that the most important thing about making your outfit look spectacular is confidence. That’s why we’ve got a dedicated Body Fit range for petite, plus size and maternity.

For the night in with a box set

Not one for partying? We’re still up for a loveable NYE outfit. Pick out some new loungewear to snuggle into as you see in the New Year. You might not be going out but you still want to feel cosy and beautiful as you start afresh for 2023.

Men’s New Year’s Eve outfits

Ladies may be first but they don’t get all the fun! Men can enjoy planning their New Year’s outfits too. Check out these New Year’s Eve outfit ideas.

Pick designer outfits to make an impression

This New Year’s Eve, catch the eye of other party goers by choosing luxury menswear outfits. From a designer blazer to designer shoes, you can make a statement that gets you noticed at the party you go to.

Look dashing in a striking and colourful shirt

Men’s New Year’s Eve outfits are a chance to go to town with colour. The simplest way is to pick a shirt that’s got a striking pattern and colour. We’ve got loads of choice with our range of preloved shirts. Wear your shirt open collared with jeans for a smart-casual NYE party or pair it with suit trousers or chinos, as well as a tie, for a more formal affair.

Look down on NYE

Footwear for men is the big defining factor in your outfit. The ladies can use accessories and jewellery but for you, it’s all about your feet. Pair trainers with a suit for the trend that’s still de rigeur in 2023, or with jeans for a casual pub night vibe.

For formal events pick highly polished brogues or a pair of boots. Check out our men’s footwear range.

Cosy up in loungewear too

Celebrating with your better half with a couples night in on the sofa? Choose the best loungewear and see in a cosy New Year.

Choose preloved for the best New Year

When you choose preloved New Year’s Eve outfits, you tend to get more choice. You aren’t shoehorned into the NYE ranges that the high street is pushing on you. Instead, you can make your budget go further and achieve a unique look that suits the style of the night.

Have fun browsing our fashion picks from your favourite influencers to ensure your New Year’s Eve outfit for 2023 is the best ever and allows you to party in style!]]>

Christmas day outfits

The festive season is upon us! A time to improve our wintry moods with a spot of festive sparkle! Speciality drinks, nights out, warm clothes and festive cheer are all things that many of us have been looking forward to, especially if you have a Christmas event lined up.

Christmas parties are no longer a distant marker in the calendar, but happening all around us. But what about the actual day? You don’t want to overlook that. With the countdown to Christmas in full swing, it’s time to start thinking about what you will be wearing on the big day – and we are here to help!

Why your Christmas Day outfit is important

In the crazy busy pre-Christmas days, it’s easy to overlook the day itself. You’re busy shopping for gifts, enjoying days out, and celebrating with friends. But it’s actually all about the day! You don’t want to wake up on Christmas morning and realise you forgot to plan your Christmas Day outfit in the busyness of the season.

Whether you choose a casual Christmas Day outfit or a more formal look, picking out an outfit that is special for the day will help you feel more festive. You’ll also have the chance to really show off your chosen look with the friends and family you spend the day with.

The great thing about a Christmas Day outfit is that it doesn’t need to be overtly Christmassy, leaving you with the scope to pick out a stylish, yet comfortable option that can be reused for events throughout the year.

Formal women’s Christmas Day outfit ideas

If you are preparing to get dressed up this Christmas then you will be looking for festive formal inspiration. From dresses and skirts to two-piece sets and playsuits, there really is something to suit everybody’s style.

We love sparkles, velvet and drama to set the tone with festive colour choices for the best effect. Adding in some stylish heels and festive jewellery will finish the look and help you feel as festive as possible. It’s wise to remember that most people over indulge on Christmas Day, so pick out an outfit that won’t feel too constrictive, leaving you free to enjoy all the treats on offer, even if you’ve gone down the formal route.

Men’s formal outfit ideas for Christmas Day

It’s not just women who want to look great on Christmas Day, but men want to look their best too! The great news for men is that a formal Christmas outfit is easy to assemble and can be varied to suit the tone of the day.

For example, a suit looks great at ultra-formal events, with a smart shirt and a festive tie or bow tie. If the day is semi-formal then a suit with an open collar and no tie will work well too.

Men can accessorise their formal look with a festive pocket square and Christmas themed socks without spoiling the smart look they are working to achieve. Yes, Christmas Day is when brightly coloured themed socks work out!

Comfy Christmas Day outfits for everyone

Formal Christmas outfits do look fantastic but if you’re more about feeling cosy this Christmas then why not choose something festive that has your comfort in mind? You can find a wide range of novelty Christmas jumpers to buy and then pair it with your comfiest jeans, skirt or trousers.

If you want to be even more comfy, then pick out a pair of warm and soft Christmas pyjamas and enjoy wearing them all day – you can even find matching sets for the whole family for cute, festive photos. If it’s just the family together for Christmas Day, without anyone to impress, then a day in your comfiest clothes might be just what Santa calls for.

Don’t forget the kids this Christmas

Christmas outfits aren’t just for the adults. There are plenty of great choices for the kids too! Indeed, a new Christmas Day outfit is a wonderful tradition to start – and teaching them to buy preloved to save some money and help the planet is even better. A great way of getting them dressed and ready when the excitement of their gifts is hard to pull away from.

From pretty dresses to chinos and shirts, there is nothing stopping you from creating outfits that harmonise and complement the grown-ups when you select Christmas outfits for kids. It’s Christmas – cheesiness works! It’s a good idea to remember that Christmas is a time where your children will want to get involved in everything that is going on, meaning that it is a good idea to get them outfits that look great but are also easy to move around in so that they can play.

Christmas pyjamas were made for little ones! Pop some festive children’s pyjamas in their Christmas Eve box and you stand the best chance of getting excited little ones off to bed before the man in red puts in an appearance. Plus, it means they look super cute for their stocking and gift opening photos in the morning too!

Creating a Christmas themed home

Christmas isn’t complete without sprucing up your home for the big day. You can invest in beautiful decorations, table settings and homeware to finish the Christmas feel so that it oozes Christmas everywhere you look. If you are seriously organised then there is nothing stopping you from taking your colour themes and using them in your outfits too.

We know belts are a little tighter for everyone this year, so shopping for preloved homeware is a perfect way to save some money.

winter warmers

Love or hate winter, one of its absolute best pleasures is being able to snuggle into a bobble hat and wrap yourself in a chunky knit scarf. Winter outdoor fashion is cosy, fun and heart-warming. But do you know how to style a winter scarf so that you don’t look like a snowman, or how to wear a beanie hat with confidence? That’s what this guide is all about: how to style your winter warmers.

Check out all of our cold weather accessories at kathywilliamsmarketing!

Winter hats

There’s so much choice when it comes to styles of winter hats it can be a little overwhelming. Let’s break it down.

How to wear a bobble hat or beanie

We love our bobbles and beanies! But we also get that knowing how to wear a beanie hat or bobble hat can leave you a little discombobulated. The good news is that there aren’t any set rules with these hats.

Sticking up straight, slouching back, all the way back or on snug and tight are all great looks. So, pick what suits your mood or which works best with your face shape. Bobble hats and beanies are your casual go-to hats that are easy to stuff in a handbag, and always make you feel nurtured and warm.

How to wear a winter fedora

Winter fedora hats are usually made of felt and offer one of the smartest styles of winter hats. Fedoras work exceptionally well with long trench-style coats. But they also pair beautifully with a more casual denim look. Pop on some ankle boots and a crossbody bag and you’ll look well put together this winter.

How to wear wide brimmed hats

Wide brimmed hats are still in this winter and are as in place on the dog walk as they are on city streets. Great if there’s a spot of rain, or even some dazzling winter sun, wide brimmed winter hats are stylish and offer a little flair to your winter look.

How to wear a beret

Berets remain firm favourites among the styles of winter hats. Berets take a little practice to style but trial and error will help you figure out if your face shape better suits a sideways slant, or a symmetrical push-back. Always keep it flat on top and expose nearly all your forehead.

Before you dive into stocking up on winter hats, let’s just answer another of the most common FAQs we get:

How do you wear a hat with long hair?

Wearing a winter hat with long hair works best if you go for a down hairstyle, preventing any unusual shapes under the hat. However, if you want your hair tied back, choose low plaits and braids.

Winter scarves

Wondering how to wear a winter scarf? Read on.

Knowing how to wear a scarf for winter again means getting your head around different winter scarf styles. Just having some fabric wrapped around instantly adds some warmth to cooler days.

How to wear a chunky knit, woolly or cashmere scarf

The easiest to grab and go, the chunky knit or ribbed scarf is perfect for the coldest days. From loop ties to simple wraparounds, take yourself off to YouTube for the myriad ways you can style this type of scarf. Knowing how to wear big scarves in winter is just about knowing how to grab it off the hooks before you leave the house.

How to wear short scarves

Short scarves are often thicker and heavier than many scarves. They are styled best with a simple cross over under an open collar jacket.

How to wear silk and lightweight scarves

Lightweight scarves still have warming powers! They are perfect for cooler office days. Loosely bunched around the neck and chest is the style of the season or create a loop tie over a classic tee.

Knowing how to wear a scarf for winter is easy – you can’t go wrong. Getting warm? Drape your scarf open around your neck. Got lots of layers? Wrap it close to your neck. Scarves are versatile!

Winter gloves

The last in our winter accessory trio is winter gloves. Glove styles are as diverse as hats and scarves, so again, you can always find the right style to match your look. There are far too many winter glove styles to cover here, but here are some tips for our favourites this winter.

How to wear woollen gloves

Woolly gloves are perfect for dry but cool days. You don’t want to use them in the rain! They work best as a casual look, paired with a matching scarf and even beanie.

How to wear leather or faux leather gloves

Leather and faux leather gloves are much better for wetter winter days, and they are also excellent for creating a smart cold weather look too. Tailored gloves work well with your smartest office wear as well as with your glam clothes for a night out.

How to wear mittens

Mittens aren’t just for the kids! They remain a popular choice and work well with chunky knits and denim days. Flip-it gloves (fingerless with the mitten overlay) also offer lots of choice. Great for when you’re trying to get on your ice skates or wrap your hands around a mulled wine, but also great when you’re feeling chilly.

How to wear long arm gloves

Longer arm gloves are great if your jacket has on-the-wrist sleeves and you easily feel the chill. Pop them on first, before adding your jacket.

Winter warmers, like hats, scarves and gloves are also an excellent way of reinvigorating your winter wardrobe. They are accessories you can change to swiftly change your look. Grab your winter warmers today and have fun playing with styles. ]]>

second hand christmas

The season of baubles and parties is soon to be upon us, but the festive season also has a slightly darker side. Without wishing to be the Grinch, we need to realise that the season of mistletoe is also the season of increased waste. We need to take a more sustainable approach to Christmas – and second hand Christmas decorations, gifts, and outfits is the way to go.

Also, as Christmas looms, finding the perfect gifts, accessories, and clothes can seem like an expense you want to avoid, especially when lots of items are made without any regard for the environment.

Rather than spending your hard-earned cash on items that could ultimately end up in the bin, why not opt for a preloved Christmas, only buying items for resale instead? If this sounds like your type of Christmas, our handy guide is here to help! What’s more, you’ll be bang on trend, as having a second hand Christmas is the way to go in 2022.

Why is a preloved Christmas a great idea?

Choosing to buy preloved items this Christmas comes with many great benefits, including:

 • Helping the environment
 • Saving you some money
 • Getting unique items
 • Supporting individual sellers rather than big faceless chains
 • Reducing fast fashion impact
 • Offering a meaningful gift
 • Getting items from people you admire

Plus, if you love to shop around for gifts, then preloved items are ideal for your shopping fun as you will need to spend extra time finding sellers that have the type of items you want rather than just sticking to the high street! This shows that you’ve really put in the thought and effort, considering the individual you are buying for.

Second hand Christmas jumpers

Festive knitwear has become a much-loved tradition, with new designs being offered every year. But often these jumpers are worn once and then discarded. That’s an expense that seems unnecessary and it’s also not good for the planet.

If you want to save some cash but still be able to join in, then preloved Christmas jumpers are definitely the way forward! Most Christmas jumpers are worn less than five times each, meaning they are often discarded well before they are at the end of their life. By choosing a preloved jumper, you can enjoy a style that probably won't be on sale in stores, meaning that you will look unique and be able to save an item of clothing from going to the landfill before it needs to!

Second hand Christmas decorations

It's not just clothes that can be purchased second hand either; preloved Christmas decorations are a great idea too!

Festive stockings, baubles and Christmas ornaments can all be found second hand, meaning that you can create a bespoke Christmas theme without breaking the bank. You will be prolonging the life of the ornaments and baubles too. Many people like to switch up their Christmas colours each year, so all you need to do is look for sellers who have a collection that you like and then bag a bargain.

You can also pick special items that will become your heirlooms when you head to the home section of kathywilliamsmarketing. We often have new and novel décor that can spruce up your home to match the season.

Second hand toys for Christmas

Modern kids have access to many toys and games, making them difficult to buy for in the run up to Christmas, especially when their parents don't have any specific suggestions. Rather than adding to the massive mountain of plastic purchases that are predicted for this year, why not choose a second hand toy gift that will inspire and impress the young people in your life?

You can often get wooden toys, personalised gifts and even fun and quirky items that you won't find on the high street, helping you achieve something memorable that will be treasured.

Choose high quality items and they tend to last. What’s more, kids are the easiest to buy second hand for as they have no preconceived ideas of what you should and shouldn’t do for gifts! If it’s fun, they will love it!

Simple tips to support the best purchases

Shopping second hand can be stressful, especially when you aren’t sure when something is a steal or when it should be left on the shelf. To help you out, we’ve shared some top tips to help you shop:

Look for quality items

Picking out a great second hand item doesn't need to be stressful as long as you look for quality. If something is cheap and made from poor quality materials, it will not likely be loved. Take your time to find an item that shouts originality in the best way so that you get something that special someone will love.

Don’t be cheap

When you hear the term preloved, you can be forgiven for assuming it will be cheap, but this isn't necessarily true. Yes, second hand items are often sold at a reduced price, but to get the best gifts, clothes or decorations, you still need to be willing to spend a reasonable amount, or you will end up with bad quality items that look second best, not second hand.

Be proud of your preloved attitude

Finally, once you have found the item you want to buy, don’t be afraid to share your success of preloved shopping with all your friends and family. Taking the time to find something preloved and giving it a new home is something to be proud of, so don’t shy away from sharing!

how to wear a leather jacket

There’s something simply fabulous about a leather jacket. It oozes sex appeal, makes you inherently cool, and it’s super versatile too. They come in a huge range of colours and styles, and we’re sure you won’t be able to stop at just one.

Investing in a leather jacket, or a leather effect jacket, is a great addition to your wardrobe, especially when you know how to wear it to achieve a range of different looks.

If you are keen to maximise the potential of your new purchase but don't know how to style it, then we are here to help. Read on to find out how to wear a leather jacket and learn what to wear it with!

Why a preloved leather jacket is a wise choice

Leather jackets are great investments as they last decades when they are properly looked after. What’s more, purchasing them preloved can help to save you cash and stop you from needing to break in the leather to make it comfy to wear. That’s right – second hand leather jackets can actually be nicer to wear and better than their off-the-peg counterparts.

The great thing about preloved leather is that it is affordable and has many different styles, colours and designs to choose from. Not all items of clothing work well preloved, but leather absolutely does.

What to wear with a leather jacket

When choosing your outfit, you will be pleased to know that leather jackets look great with several different options.

From well-cut jeans to dresses, there are an endless number of choices that you can pick from. Some of our favourite combinations include jeans, floaty skirts and even leggings, but your final choice will depend on the cut and colour of the leather jacket you own, as well as the mood you’re in and what you’re up to.

Fitted leather jackets are a great choice for dresses and skirts as they help to cinch your waist. Whereas a regular fit leather jacket is more suited to jeans and leggings as it helps create a slimmer look.

Things to wear with a leather jacket

Looking for more specific advice about what to wear with a leather jacket? Put simply, a leather jacket is perfect for virtually every outfit you can think of. From skinny-fit trousers to casual chinos and daytime skirts or even formalwear, a leather jacket will add something special to your outfit choice.

There are some key rules when wearing a leather jacket, and these all depend on the cut and colour. For example, if you are wondering how to wear a leather bomber jacket, then both men and women should stick to jeans and a t-shirt for an effortless look that works for day wear and evenings out. It worked in the fifties and it’s not gone out of style since, so it’s nearly impossible to beat.

What’s more, it’s also a good idea to never pair the colour of your jacket with the colour of your clothes as this can create a disconnect with your outfit – instead, choose complimentary colours that help to showcase your style. That’s why you see black jackets with blue jeans, or beige jackets with a bright skirt.

Don’t forget to accessorise

Once you have chosen your outfit and selected the right leather jacket to pair it with, you will also need to turn your attention to your accessories.

Typically, a leather jacket is a statement garment, and pairing it with accessories that are too loud can spoil the effect you are looking for. Let the jacket do most of the talking. Rather than donning lots of jewellery, keep your items to a minimum and choose contrasting shoes and bags that will help sync your clothes, jacket and accessories perfectly.

It's wise to match your shoe and bag colour and material for the most seamless look, but there are no hard and fast rules here.

How to care for your leather jacket

No matter which outfits you choose to wear your leather jacket with, it is important to remember that you need to care for it properly to get the best look. They can last for decades, but only with the proper care.

You can’t put a leather jacket in the washing machine, but you can gently wipe it down with soapy water and use a leather soap to keep it in the best condition. Remember to air your jacket, too, helping to remove any smells that may be picked up when you wear it. Leather jackets are remarkably forgiving if you give them a little TLC.

Can I wear a leather jacket in the rain?

Knowing when to wear your leather jacket can be a minefield, especially when you don't want it to get damaged or waterlogged.

If you are thinking of wearing it out on a rainy day, you should be aware that it won’t be completely waterproof and may leak if there is heavy rain. If you are keen to use your leather jacket as your winter coat, then take some time to apply a special leather lotion or leather wax that will help increase the water resistance on offer. But really, it’s still only good for light showers rather than full on rainstorms.

Remember to wipe your jacket dry when you get inside, as this will help to keep it in great condition. If water is spilled on the jacket, this can leave marks, so try to wipe it off immediately if this happens.

It’s a way to ensure you’re always feeling your best, even when the weather’s not.

If you love the idea of looking great for all occasions without extensive styling and shopping, then we have the information you need. Learn how to style co-ords with our help and advice, and make your autumn and winter wardrobe fabulous, yet still practical.

Why are co-ords so popular right now?

Just a quick refresher for those who are wondering what a co-ord is anyway – co-ords are that perfect hassle-free set of matching top and bottoms. The top and trousers or skirt are completely matching with the same colour and pattern. There’s no need to think if one item goes with another because they are designed to be worn together, in perfect harmony. A co-ord can be a matching tracksuit set or matching top and skirt, or any combo where the two halves are part of a whole.

The main reason that co-ords are such a popular choice right now is that they remove all the stress you face when trying to pick out an outfit. We’ve all experienced the stress of trying to put a cute outfit together only to feel like nothing matches. But co-ords are designed to help you avoid this problem and keep you looking great.

The other reason that co-ords are so popular right now is that there are options for every aspect of your life. From the gym or work to relaxing or special occasions; there is a co-ord for all your needs.

Co-ords for work

When picking out your work outfit, choosing a neutral toned co-ord is a great starting point and can help you create a professional and stylish look. Whether you want coordinated knitwear to go with some smart suit trousers or a matching top and skirt co-ord, it’s always good to go for something that screams smart and stylish to show that you are serious about what you do.

Don’t forget to match your work outfit with some low-key jewellery and pick out a bag and shoe combo that helps to finish off the professional look you are going for. Definitely don’t forget the very original co-ord – the suit!

Co-ords for play

Whether you are enjoying a planned day off or looking forward to a fun and casual weekend, co-ords for your downtime are a great pick.

If you are staying at home, a luxurious loungewear set can leave you feeling fabulous whilst keeping you snug and comfy. It’s a way of looking put together when you’re just slouching about.

Need to pop out? Rather than changing into a brand new outfit, take a moment to style your loungewear with some of your favourite accessories so that you can dress up your style without compromising on your comfort. Or pop on a two-piece matching playsuit that you can pair with a warm jumper or coat to take you from day to evening.

Gym wear co-ord

Keeping fit and healthy should be an essential part of your weekly regime, but finding gym clothes that show off your figure and support you well can be tough. That’s before you add in looking good too.

First, start by picking out gym clothes designed for your sport of choice and then look for coordinating items that bring your style to the fore. Crop tops and leggings are often the most popular co-ords, but you can also coordinate your gym shoes and sweaters to create an entire look that you are proud of.

Co-ord evening wear

Have you got an important evening event to attend and want to look your absolute best? The key to getting the right co-ord for the evening is to think about how you can show off your wild side and pick out a two-piece set that is stylish, sexy and shows off all your curves.

Pick out a cropped top and flared trouser look or a bodycon dress and jacket duo to make your evening wear simple but absolutely stylish. If the event is more formal, look for a co-ord set that suits the black or white tie experience and leaves you feeling fabulous.

Occasion wear co-ords

If you have a special occasion to attend and want to look great all day long, then plenty of occasion wear co-ords would look great on you! Formal dresses with matching jackets, two-piece skirts and tops, and even formal trouser suits are all great choices.

You have to remember that special occasions can go on all day, so picking out the right co-ord will require you to find something comfy that looks elegant and fitting for the occasion. Again, accessories are a great way to add something special to your look, along with stunning shoes that will easily carry you through the day.

Did you know that the word ‘stigma’ comes from a marking burned into the skin of ancient Greeks in order to showcase them as outcasts? Choosing to buy second hand gifts for Christmas may not land you with an unwanted tattoo, but it could still leave you feeling like you’ll be cast out socially.

The reality is, there is still quite a stigma around second hand Christmas gifts. While many more people are becoming conscious of their impact on the planet, some are reluctant to bring these principles of sustainability to gifting.

If you want to know how you can give someone beautiful and thoughtful gifts that don’t cost the earth, then read on.

Why should we all give and receive second hand gifts for Christmas?

We’re all learning that we need to be more responsible consumers. Our world simply can’t sustain the level of consumption we’re contributing to. For example, at kathywilliamsmarketing we know that you love preloved clothing precisely because it’s a great way to be planet-thoughtful and nab a bargain. We are masters at choosing low food mile food. We recycle automatically and you won’t catch us with a plastic straw.

But when it comes to Christmas, it’s like we’re all duped by the glitter and fairy lights to expect only things that are new and dazzling. Our conscious consumerism fails. Indeed, an extra 30% of rubbish is chucked out during the festive season with over 100 million bags heading to landfill.

So, to help you help the planet and banish the stigma surrounding second hand gifting, find out why you should buy second hand gifts for Christmas.

Less waste

Buying second hand gives the item a new lease of life. It would otherwise be discarded, likely ending up in landfill.

Support small

If you want to support your local community, or individual brands that matter to you, buying second hand helps. For example, when you buy from your favourite influencer, you’re helping them too.

Better bargains

Particularly at Christmas, prices are hiked up. You’re rarely getting good value for money, whether you’re buying a new bike or a sofa. You can make your gift budget go considerably further by choosing to buy second hand Christmas gifts. Your recipient receives something a little more special for the same budget.

Lower carbon emissions

Particularly in the fashion world, we need to be aware of carbon emissions. The fashion industry is responsible for 2.1 billion metric tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions, a sizeable chunk of the world’s total. Even if you choose eco-friendly clothing, it is still more harmful than not being a consumer at all. A good compromise is to ensure that you use second hand gifting where you can.

More thoughtful

Second hand gifts can actually be much more personal, unique and thoughtful. You’ll need to hunt around a bit more, and in doing so, you’ll likely find something that will really suit the recipient, rather than going down the generic high street shopping route.

More bang for your buck

When you buy second hand you can buy someone special something more for the same budget. A €75.00 designer t-shirt may be out of your reach normally, but by choosing good quality preloved items, you can buy it for your friend and make their day.

Are you convinced yet? If so, read on and discover some of our best second hand gift ideas. Let’s work together to ditch the stigma of second hand gifts and normalise it!

Top tips for second hand Christmas gifts

Preloved not unwanted

Choose preloved gifts chosen with care, don’t just re-gift something unwanted you were given. These may make good charity donations, but they don’t tell someone they are special and important to you.

Be honest

Whilst we’re battling the stigma around second hand gifts, it is worth being honest with recipients and enthusiastically sharing that it’s preloved and why you’ve chosen that.

Choose quality

If you’re choosing a second hand gift then buy from a reputable source, such as kathywilliamsmarketing, where the quality will be high and any fixes or cleaning has already been taken care of.

Don’t cut your budget

Don’t reduce your budget because you are buying second hand. The idea is to show that you can give someone something more special, not just get away with spending less.

Make it look lovely

Packaging is a problem for the environment, but the reason retailers use it is that it sells. It hooks us in and makes us think we’re getting something more than we are. Given that the amount of wrapping paper we use each year could reach the moon, most of which isn’t recyclable, it’s important not to automatically go down that route, but consider ways you can make the gift look more special. What about brown paper and a sprig of holly from a local walk, a reusable gift bag, or using a useful box?

office wear

Move over WFH, hybrid working is here to stay. With that comes more office days, more face-to-face meetings with clients and colleagues, and more opportunities to learn to love office style once again.

However, finding great office outfits as a woman can be stressful, especially if you work somewhere where there is no prescribed dress code or uniform to adhere to. Do you go all out with a crisp dark suit, and what exactly is office casual all about?

Rather than investing in a brand new wardrobe just for work, why not mix and match items you have with new, smart pieces to create cute office outfits instead? This works particularly well with the hybrid concept and ensures you’ve always got what you need.

We’ve brought together some of the best women’s office outfit styles and have shared them to give you the inspiration you are looking for – check them out now!

Smart casual office outfits – dresses with jackets

One of the easiest office outfit ideas is the humble and often underestimated dress. Whether you choose a shift, A-line, tunic or something else, most dresses will give you the smart and chic look you are trying to achieve, especially when you pair it with the right jacket. From smart bomber style jackets to tailored suit jackets, take the time to find a style that enhances your features, helps you to create the persona you want to be in the office, and makes you feel fabulous and confident.

In fact, we’d go so far as to say – if in doubt, choose a dress for office wear. They can look smart or casual simply depending on what others around you are wearing. It’s a good ‘hedging your bets’ option while you figure things out.

Chic office looks – bold trousers with smart tops

If you prefer to wear trousers to work, take the plunge and avoid the same black pair everyone else is wearing! That said, it’s always good to keep a trusted pair of black trousers in your wardrobe – although don’t rely on them too often. But it’s good to have them there as a staple when you need them.

Bold coloured trousers can look both smart and stylish when paired with the right top for easy office outfits and will give you the confidence that will help you get the job done every day. From pinks to greens and beyond, a bold colour is out there with your name on it!

Patterned trousers sometimes have their place in office wear, but it really depends on your working environment. If in doubt, go for an understated pattern and pair with a dark top and blazer for a more professional look.

Office outfit ideas – twinset vibes

Another classic office look for ladies is the twinset! Before you panic that you are growing old before your time, pairing beautiful knitwear with a modern skirt is on trend for a good reason – it looks great in the workplace and is incredibly comfortable to wear!

Think about choosing a statement skirt to pair with your chosen knitwear, or add in some stylish boots to own the outfit. Make it yours while adhering to the rules set out in your workplace.

Office looks for women – suits with tees

Is one of your favourite office work outfits a suit, but it's too formal for your work environment?

Don't panic! The great news is that pairing your suit with a more casual t-shirt and trainers can help to create casual work outfits that help you to fit in without having to ditch your favourite look.

Depending on how casual your office is, you can choose between plain and patterned t-shirts and then smarten it up with an appropriate blouse on more formal days – it’s definitely a win-win!

Easy office outfits – stylish blazers

If you have a casual dress code at work but find that there are times when you need to be able to pull a smart look out of the bag, then a blazer is your best friend! Tailored blazers can pair with virtually all the looks you may choose and can be easily stored on your chair or in your bag when it is not needed. In fact, check out any office coat rack once the office is closed for the night and you’ll find several people leaving a blazer at the office, just in case.

Ideally, you should invest in a tailored blazer in a neutral colour so that it works with all your outfits, but has some interesting buttons or features that adhere to your individual style. This is the easiest way to go from casual to smart in just a few seconds. It’s also there if you want to pop out for post-work drinks at a swanky bar.

Cute office outfits – smart denim

Many women think that denim is a no-go choice when it comes to the workplace, but this is simply not true. Plenty of smart denim jeans will pair brilliantly with shirts and blazers to create the office casual look you want to achieve. Take the time to look for darker, well-fitted options that work well with heels or smart flats.

It’s important to note that while there is a place for denim at work, you should avoid items that are too casual, baggy or ripped to ensure that you don’t tip over into the too casual look. Also, try to figure out the unwritten rules of your own workplace before you commit to denim!

What to wear to the office

If you are looking for an office outfit for ladies but don't want to play into the fast fashion black hole, then why not pick something preloved by your favourite fashion influencers? At kathywilliamsmarketing, we make it our mission to take items no longer needed by influencers and make them available to you so that you can enjoy the latest looks without breaking the bank.

Check out our latest dresses, trousers, tops and accessories to get the stylish office looks you want to achieve. We’re sure you'll be wowed and inspired to develop your own personal office style and achieve the professional appearance you’ve been working towards.

For those who’ve had no time to prepare, here are some quick and easy Halloween costumes to try.

Quick Halloween Costume Amanda Holden

You prepare for Christmas with military precision, Easter is somehow easier to manage, but Halloween creeps up on you and shouts “BOO!” in an unabashed monster-like fashion. It demands a costume to wow whatever audience you face.

So if you need Halloween costumes quickly, what are your options? Here we share some of the best quick Halloween costume ideas that are easy, effective, and definitely not too scary.

1. Using colour cleverly

Costumes are great, and of course, you may want to distinctly be a witch or a pumpkin, but the best quick easy Halloween costumes use what you’ve already got. Grab anything from your wardrobe that’s black, orange, purple and maybe murky green and you can come up with a glam and glorious Halloween outfit without much effort at all.

Indeed, if you’re not a 10 year old ready to be hyped up on the sugar-rush of trick or treating, but instead going to a classy Halloween party, this might be more your thing anyway.

2. Grunt like a zombie

Perhaps the best quick Halloween costumes you can find are zombies. It’s super easy because the focus is on ruining what you’ve got rather than dressing up! Pull together a pre-loved outfit that’s at the end of its life and get to work with scissors, coffee grounds and fake blood.

Smear the stains on your visible skin too and do a dreadful attempt at your makeup and the job’s done. What’s more, this is the day for your most severely ripped jeans… You could be a zombie office worker or a zombie gym bunny – the choice is yours.

3. Pac Man

Stranger Things has got us going all-out retro for 1980s and 1990s themed ideas. One of our favourite quick and easy Halloween costumes for this year is sure to be the LBD turned Pac Man.

Whip out your little black dress, take some coloured craft paper, and have fun turning yourself into this favourite retro game.

4. Parisian chic

The best thing about Halloween is that dressing up is just fun. It doesn’t have to be a scary fancy dress outfit to be worn on the night. Instead, you can use Halloween as an opportunity to try a style that’s just a little out of your usual comfort zone.

Head over to our preloved shop and choose some outfits which make you look like you’re straight off the catwalk.

5. Fabulous fairies

Nip down to the local toy store and buy yourself some fairy wings (or get crafty at home) and you can use any summer floaty pastel coloured dress to instantly transform yourself into a fairy for a quick Halloween costume.

Use it as an excuse to create a dreamy hairstyle and add some shimmery lips and eyes, and you’ll have an enchanting look.

6. Superman wannabe

One for the guys is to pull out a stylish luxury suit, add some wire to a red tie, pair it with some blocky glasses and even a superman print tee, and you’ve got an easy Clark Kent look.

7. Go fruity

Open your wardrobe and spy your brightest most glorious dress, or pick a preloved one from kathywilliamsmarketing. Then create a homemade headpiece. Think bright yellow dresses for pineapple, green for kiwis, and red for strawberries. It’s simple, fun and fruity! Pop on some shades to level up your costume with a tropical vibe.

8. Robots rule

Really left your Halloween costume to the last minute? No problem. Simply grab a big box and adorn it with anything and everything from coat hangers to old CDs to bottle tops. Cut a big hole in the top for your head, arm holes in the side and there you go… you’re now a ready to go robot.

9. Down the rabbit hole

Alice in Wonderland is our answer to quick and easy Halloween costumes. All you really need is a pale blue dress. Add a little white apron from a cut up old white tee. Then use a classic Alice band and there you go!

Pair it with black slip-ons and you’ve got one of the best but stylish quick Halloween costumes we can think of.

10. Ghostly ghouls

Let’s be honest, there’s a reason why mum sent you out on Halloween dressed as a ghost. Time caught up, nothing was planned and hey, there’s your bed sheet… well learn from the best if you’re not feeling the love for your outfit and simply cover everything up with a sheet. Cut some eye holes and give us your best “woooo” noises!

11. Released from Hogwarts

Whoever your favourite character is, Halloween costumes with a Harry Potter theme are easy and quick. A basic white blouse or shirt paired with some office wear and even a tank, simply adorned with a striped tie and a stick for a wand – you’re good to go.

You might get detention for breaking multiple uniform rules but who said you wanted to be the teacher’s pet anyway?

12. Rattle me bones

A DIY skeleton costume is one of the best solutions when you need Halloween costumes quick. Again, raid your wardrobe for everything black – you’re looking for a long-sleeved black top and long black trousers

Now grab yourself some masking tape and stick on strips to make the bone outlines. This is perhaps one of the easiest Halloween costumes we know.

13. Fashion faux pas

Lastly, if you’re a fashion lover who’s an influencer follower, you’ll have the best understanding of what’s in fashion and what’s not. Take a tongue in cheek approach to your Halloween costume and make every fashion ‘mistake’ going. Mix shoes and colours, and get it all wrong. It’ll be the scariest costume you could imagine.

Have fun with our 13 – unlucky for some – quick Halloween costumes. Need anything to make your costume come together? Check out everything we’ve got in stock at kathywilliamsmarketing so that your costume inspo can become a wardrobe favourite once you’ve rolled back home with your loot bag full and the night of tricks behind you.

Styling Cargo Pants Amber Gill

In case you hadn’t heard, cargo pants are back on trend and have become hugely popular for both men and women. They’re part of the 1990s fashion remix and we love it!

This has left many of us wondering how to style cargo pants to achieve the perfect look without losing shape and the vibrant looks we love. But if you’re having cargo-styling woes then you aren’t on your own – we’ve got the answers you need.

At kathywilliamsmarketing, you can source preloved items from influencers that can help you to create on-trend outfits. If you are keen to dive into the cargo pants trend, this style guide is here to help.

How to style cargo pants for men

Cargo pants for men have been on the back burner for many years with lots of blokes choosing to wear them even when they weren’t strictly in fashion! There’s good reason – they are versatile, comfy and a hybrid blend between stiff jeans and slouchy jerseys. So, realistically, they never fully went out of style before coming back.

However, this has left some men unsure of how to style them now that they are on trend and something to choose for both a night out and doing some jobs in the house. In the past, when deciding what to wear with cargo pants, men have been guilty of some fashion disasters.

Some of the key ways to style this refreshed look is to pair the cargo pants with smart trainers, checked shirts and even relaxed knitwear and sweaters. It is important to ensure that the items you pair them with don’t clash or drown out the look you are going for. But remember when choosing what to wear with cargo pants, options for men are vast and enable you to be creative.

How to style cargo pants for women

It’s no longer just the guys who are getting all the cargo pant action!

‘Are cargo pants in style?’ is a question that many women have been asking recently, and the simple answer is yes! As we say, this is part of the 1990s fashion reboot but they’ve now got a modern edge.

There are plenty of colours to choose from and they can all be styled to create a simple and casual look. Generally speaking, women’s cargo pants are now slightly more tailored and better fitting than their 1990s counterparts.

Start by taking a fitted t-shirt and add in a bomber jacket or sweatshirt to get the casual but chic style you are looking for. The other great thing about cargo pants for women is that they give you the opportunity to enjoy wearing bright and funky trainers too, helping you to show off your individuality the way you want to.

What tops to wear cargo pants with

The first thing to think about when you are working out what to wear with cargo pants is picking out the right top. Cargo pants are naturally baggy and it makes sense to pair them with a more fitted top to help show off your fabulous physique. Choose loose tops and you run the risk of looking too relaxed rather than stylish.

Men can choose from sleeveless or sleeved t-shirts as a base layer, choosing the level of smartness depending on whether you are looking for a day or night look. Women can take their fitted t-shirts and tuck them in. Another option is to take a larger tee and tie it in the front for a cute look. Alternatively, choose a fitted tank or halter top to create a night time look that pops.

Pairing a baggy top with cargo pants often leads to a look that is too casual, or even quite messy.

What jacket to wear with cargo pants

Another great part of owning cargo pants is that they can be styled with a number of different jackets to help change up your look.

Both men and women can opt for bomber jackets, puffer jackets, denim jackets or even shirt-style jackets in whichever pattern or colour suits your individual style and the colour of the cargo pants you are wearing. The rules of pattern mixing can be a bit more relaxed with cargo pants.

Ultimately, when it comes to picking the right jacket you need to be confident and understand that cargo pants can be both dressed up and down depending on your plans and your style goals.

What shoes to wear with cargo pants

When it comes to learning what to wear with cargo pants ladies, the rule ‘anything goes’ is incredibly true, especially with footwear! From fashion trainers to military boots and high heels to pumps, you can use your shoe choice to elevate your cargos to fit with the mood you are in.

The same tenets about footwear apply for men who can choose from flatbed sandals to boots and trainers depending on the vibe they want to create.

The key to success is to pair accessories like shoes to match the occasion, knowing that your cargo pants will follow suit.

Ways to wear cargo pants

With all the advice we’ve shared you should now be confident about how to wear cargo pants and how to create the look you want to achieve. The key to cargo pants style success is to find a look that is comfortable and appealing to you and your needs so that you look good and feel good too!

With so many influencers and celebrities wearing cargo pants, you are definitely not on your own when you choose to take part in this trend. Take some time to check out our influencer’s preloved items to help you find shoes, jackets and tops to wear with cargo pants and enjoy building your comfy new wardrobe.]]>

LBD

Everyone needs a little black dress! AKA your LBD, it is a versatile dress-up or dress-down, grab and go item that comes into its own all of the time. It’s the
dress that’s always bang on trend.

Little black dresses first came to the fore in the late 1920s when Coco Chanel took them from their place as standard mourning attire and shone a new light on them on the cover of Vogue – the rest is history! Nowadays, every quality wardrobe is home to a little black dress, providing a stylish solution to your fashion needs and offering the perfect base for all occasions.

Knowing how to style your LBD for every season doesn’t need to be stressful when you trust our advice – read our guide to get the tips and tricks you need to transform your LBD dress into something that wows everyone and gives you the confidence you need. It’s not too complex when you know how, but follow our pointers to get it right.

Start with colour

LBD dresses are not designed to be drab and dull but to provide a chic and stylish item of clothing that can be teamed with anything that suits the occasion. This means that you should choose a black that is truly midnight black. No faded charcoal will do – you’ll look like you’re in corporate wear at best or that your dress has been through the wash too many times at worst.

If you want to make a statement with your LBD, adding a pop of colour may do the trick. Adding a colourful coat or jacket will enhance your outfit. Take your time choosing colourful accessories – dress down with a funky scarf and trainers or dress up with statement jewellery and coloured heels. The best bit is that any colour will work with black, giving you the scope to show off your true personality in style.

Choose the right jewellery

If you prefer an understated look, picking the right jewellery can help create a sophisticated outfit that doesn’t appear too flashy. There are many great options, from statement earrings to bold necklaces and bracelets, which you can choose depending on your style.

Gold or silver are perfect companions to little black dresses when you want to look classy. Or, you could select a colourful accessory if you’re relying on your LBD to get you through a first date. Whichever option works best for your needs, make sure that it matches with the rest of your outfit to achieve the look you are working to create.

Perfect your hosiery

Whether you want to wear stockings, tights, or socks with your LBD, picking the right hosiery can help to create the perfect look. If the 60s are your vibe, then a pair of knee-high socks could be perfect. But if you want to opt for something more sophisticated, a lower denier stocking or tight solution may be better.

With the popularity of trainers with any outfit, low ankle socks and trainers with your little black dress is a look we adore. If you are wearing your LBD to the office party, why not buy some tights with a shimmer to create a festive feel?

Ultimately, the LBD is a perfect base on which you can add your personality to ensure that your outfit works in every situation.

Think about footwear

Once your hosiery is in place, you must decide what footwear works best to create the ideal finished look.

Black stilettos are often the shoe of choice for formal or occasion wear as they give an elegant look and help to elongate your form. Block heels are also good if you have opted for a knee-high sock. Or, for thick knit tights, why not add a pair of ankle boots?

Lighten things up in warmer months with sandals, or make things casual with some on-trend trainers.

Add the ideal bag

Every great outfit needs a carefully selected bag to store all your belongings in and perfect your look. Again, to choose the right bag, you must consider the outfit and pick one that matches all the other elements you have selected.

Formal occasions call for classic bags, but if you want to create a fun style, picking one that is colourful or eye-catching can enhance your outfit in the right way.

Incorporate some layers

LBDs aren’t just for evening wear or formal occasions; they can also be the perfect daytime outfit if you style them correctly.

As the colder months draw near, why not take your LBD and layer it with a t-shirt underneath if your dress is sleeveless? Or, add a shirt over the top and tie it in the centre for a fun and flirty style.

Just as much as you need an LBD, you need a denim jacket and this makes for a perfect pairing. You can also consider incorporating classic knitwear to get a professional look while remaining warm – the choices are endless.

Reuse what you already have

As we become more aware of climate issues and environmentally friendly practices, it’s important to remember that styling your LBD doesn’t mean you have to go out and buy lots of new things. Take the time to look through your shoe and accessory collection, and reuse items that are perfect for layering to help you get the wardrobe you want without being part of the fast fashion cycle.

Given how long we all tend to hold onto our LBDs, and how classically and effortlessly stylish they are, LBDs are great for sustainable fashion.

Where to get your little black dress

If you don’t own an LBD or want to add a new one to your collection, then why not pick one that is preloved and ready for a new home? At kathywilliamsmarketing, we make it our mission to pair you with the most fashion-forward items worn by influencers, giving you style without damaging the planet. How to wear trainers

Like it or loathe it, wearing
trainers with every outfit is a fashion trend that looks set to stay. We’re personally big fans of trainer styling but it all comes down to knowing how to wear trainers with whatever outfit you choose.

So here we are with the kathywilliamsmarketing guide on how to wear trainers – from white trainers with dresses to chunky trainers with confidence.

Trainers with everything?

Of course, there’s a time and place for your knee high boots and your stiletto heels, but trainers get a shoe in anytime. If you can’t decide what show to go for, there will be a trainer that is perfect for your outfit.

The trick, generally, is to avoid sportswear trainers and opt for beautifully clean fashion trainers. They come in all sorts of shapes, colours and styles though, so how do you know which to wear when?

What’s great though is that there is always room for an element of the unexpected with trainer accessorised outfits. You can get away with pairings that wouldn’t normally work with other shoes – and this edginess adds to the look. In many ways, this makes trainers easy to style as you can’t get it wrong, but here are some helpful guidelines to make sure you feel confident.

How to wear black trainers

It’s not so long ago that you would have only reached for black trainers and anything white was positively terrifying. Now, black trainers can feel a little daunting.

However, black trainers are in and they are the versatile choice, especially if you want to go for the more understated but smarter trainer look. They go with everything. We particularly recommend black leather trainers, or leather effect. Keep them clean with neat laces and you can as easily pair them with your mom jeans as you can with some tight leather trousers.

For bang on trend black trainers, choose ones with white soles.

Shop for black trainers.

How to wear white trainers with dresses

When it comes to how to wear trainers with a dress, we recommend you swoop right in and pick a pair of classic white low top sneakers. Ensure they are pristine white and in the best condition.

White is a versatile colour that allows your dress to be the star of the show while you get the perfect balance of chic and comfort. Indeed, it’s such a trend that every wedding our team has been to this summer has seen a clutch of flower girls and bridesmaids sporting the trainer and dress look.

For us, white trainers are like black heels – everyone needs a pair. Any length dress works with a trainer pairing. A maxi dress is rounded off nicely with a pair as easily as an above the knee affair. However, if you are petite or have had a dress altered for heels then opt for a short dress and trainer combo. Mid-length dresses work well too.

Our top tip is to think about the socks! If you’re pairing your trainers with a dress then forgo socks altogether or ensure that they are very low cut and matching white. This helps your legs look longer and your ankles more defined – the reason why many people typically reach for heels!

Shop for white trainers

How to wear chunky trainers

While cool white low cut trainers are versatile and the safest option if you’re new to wearing trainers, chunky trainers allow you to break the mould and assert your own style.

Chunky trainers work brilliantly with trousers, jeans, shorts and above the knee skirts. Chunky sneakers add some height, but what they really add is statement. You can only pull off this look if you believe in yourself and have the confidence to just go for it. We’ve even seen them paired with trench coats – it’s the confidence and allure of the wearer that makes it chic!

Knowing how to wear chunky trainers is all about choice. You can actively break the style rules of old. Wear those leopard print socks pulled high if you want, go for clashing patterns or colours, all is good here.

Shop for chunky trainers from your favourite influencers!

How to wear bright or patterned trainers

Often when you choose to wear trainers with an outfit, it’s about comfort and convenience. As such, you don’t want the trainers to make a statement per se – unless you’re going for a chunky trainer).

However, sometimes you really want the trainers to be the star of the show. If you’ve got some gorgeous trainers in a bright solid colour, or a pair that catches the eye with patterns, then they need room in the outfit to be the centre of attention.

When wearing bright or patterned trainers, go for a skinny fit leg on your trousers, a short skirt, shorts or short dress. However, make sure that the outfit itself is neutral, allowing the trainers the space to shine.

How to wear sports trainers

Bizarrely, in many ways the hardest trainers to wear are actually proper sports trainers. We all love our perfectly fitting running shoes that see us pavement pound and attend our next pilates class. However, sports trainers are best kept paired with your activewear.

When not to wear trainers

Trainers have edged their way so firmly into nearly every fashion look that it’s difficult to imagine there being settings and styles where they don’t work. However, steer clear of wearing trainers as business attire, except in particularly relaxed industries. Check event and venue dress codes too as many still say ‘no trainers’, even if they are luxury designer ones.

Also, trainers tend to wear more quickly than many other types of shoes. Pairing them with any outfit is fine, but only when they are in good nick and perfectly clean. Ensure you’ve always got new looking trainers by choosing preloved from kathywilliamsmarketing, and be sure to store your trainers carefully.

Alison Hammond Autumn Capsule Wardrobe

An autumn capsule wardrobe is all about having the staple items needed to keep you looking fabulous, with minimal effort. Your autumn capsule wardrobe needs to carry you through the post-summer days when Indian summer nights allow you to bask in their warmth right through until you are ready to transition into chunky knits and fabulously festive outfits!

We love a capsule wardrobe because it takes complexity out and puts convenience in. Here we look at the capsule wardrobe you need to transition you from autumn to winter, taking into account the best colours, items, and style. We even provide an autumn capsule wardrobe checklist, so that you won’t forget anything!

The basic premise with an autumn capsule wardrobe is layers. As the days draw in and you feel a nip in the air, you can level up a look simply by knowing which layer to add next, without having to start from scratch. This is the perfect route to a warm autumn capsule wardrobe without being too hot on those lingering summer days. By ensuring that all of the colours in your wardrobe complement each other, you can mix and match the items in your wardrobe with confidence.

So, what should be on your autumn capsule wardrobe checklist?

Autumn capsule wardrobe checklist

Let’s start by discussing the colours for your capsule wardrobe in autumn. Soft colours work exceptionally well, so taupe, beige, salmon, and amongst others, grey, interspersed with bold white and black. Pick your palette and stick to it for the most versatile capsule wardrobe.

Outerwear

Outerwear needs real focus for an autumn capsule wardrobe. It’s where you can layer up according to the weather and your mood. We recommend the following outerwear items:

 • Denim jacket and/or leather jacket
 • Trench/long coat
 • Blazer

A long coat is a must-have for an autumn wardrobe. Trench coats are ideal. You can use this to manage the misty drizzle of autumn days but also as a layer to keep the chill off if needed. If you get too warm, a trench coat is lightweight and easy to carry.

Denim and leather jackets work well to add a layer and look effortlessly cool. We’d go as far as to say a denim jacket is a capsule wardrobe must-have, perfect for altering a look and adding your own style. Classic blue wash will work with your autumn palette.

A blazer is essential, especially as part of an autumn work capsule wardrobe. It can smarten a look, but also appear casual when needed.

Tops and jumpers

We suggest the following basic layers and jumpers for your autumn capsule wardrobe:

Choose basic base layers such as neutral long-sleeved tops and classic white tees. If you’re aiming for a deep autumn capsule wardrobe, add in darker colours including black and charcoal. If you’d like a little more texture, choose ribbed fabric. Remember, you can always add some autumnal interest with jewellery and scarves.

When you pick your knit, ensure it is light enough to manage cool September evenings under your denim jacket, but warm enough to carry you through to the start of winter. Cashmere blend works well. A half-zip sweater or cardigan works really well and offers the versatility you need.

Bottoms and dresses

There are some essential items for your capsule wardrobe for autumn when it comes to bottoms and dresses:

 • Jeans
 • Faux leather leggings
 • Sweater dress

Vintage wash jeans work perfectly throughout the autumn months and will be the basic item of choice you often reach for. Choose high-quality jeans that will work well. Black jeans also work well in autumn, but you can still reach for your white summer jeans as part of your autumn wardrobe if you wish.

Faux black leather leggings are an excellently versatile item for your autumn wardrobe. They are so easy to dress up or down that we’re sure they will be a must-have in your autumn work capsule wardrobe too. Being a little thicker than standard leggings, they will keep you warm on cooler days as well.

A sweater dress comes into its own in autumn. A classic piece, a sweater dress is an excellent go-to for both casual and smarter occasions.

Footwear, accessories and bags!

When creating a capsule wardrobe, it’s often the footwear, accessories and bags where you can add in some flair and individual style.

Both practical and stylish, ankle boots are made for autumn before we’re quite ready to reach for our knee-highs. In addition, make sure you have a favourite pair of trainers for everyday use. White is still in, but select a wipe clean option for ease throughout the months ahead. Lastly, a pair of neutral loafers will ensure you’ve always got a way to smarten up your autumn look.

Add in a useful cross body bag and a tote, as well as scarves and favourite items of jewellery, and you’ll have an autumn capsule wardrobe that you love.

Travel capsule wardrobe for autumn

If you’re looking forward to travelling this autumn, a capsule wardrobe will serve you well. Whether you’re looking forward to leafy walks in the British countryside, or hoping to catch the last of the summer rays, a capsule wardrobe will ensure you don’t over pack. Check the weather before you go and keep things simple, remembering to pop in an umbrella for those unexpected showers, rather than carrying a full coat.

Where to shop for your autumn capsule wardrobe

It can be daunting to start a capsule wardrobe from scratch. While you’ve probably got a few items that can do another season, at kathywilliamsmarketing we’re all about enjoying some preloved items so that you’ve got everything you need.

From bottoms to outerwear, we’ve got everything that you could want. Most of our items are preloved by influencers, so you can be sure that you’ll fill your wardrobe with the most stylish pieces and sought after items. Shop now!

Second hand bridesmaid dresses

Wedding season is winding up and with it those who were bridesmaids this year are beginning to sell their
preloved bridesmaid dresses. This is a perfect opportunity for those in the UK to snap up second hand bridesmaid dresses. Second hand bridesmaid dresses are ideal because they’ve only been worn once for a few hours and buying new can be ridiculously expensive, simply because of the W word!

However, knowing how to reliably buy second hand bridesmaid dresses can seem a little complicated. So, if you’re looking to buy preloved bridesmaid dresses in the UK, read on to discover our kathywilliamsmarketing top tips and advice.

Know your reasons

When it comes to buying a second hand bridesmaid dress it’s good to start out with solid reasons. It should be an active choice that is just as exciting as choosing something new in store.

There are compelling reasons for choosing to buy bridesmaid dresses second hand.

First up, preloved bridesmaid dresses are considerably cheaper. New, off the peg dresses are often notoriously costly, simply because of the bridesmaid label and style. Many brides offer to buy the dresses for their bridesmaids, but this can add to an already pressured budget. If bridesmaids themselves are paying, then it can be tricky. So, making big savings by choosing second hand bridesmaid dresses is highly compelling.

Secondly, preloved bridesmaid dresses are the more sustainable choice. It’s simply a better option for the planet. You’ve reduced the carbon footprint of the dress and you aren’t contributing to unsustainable fashion processes. While bridesmaid dresses don’t typically fall into the ‘fast fashion’ bracket, all clothes production has some impact on the planet through use of virgin material manufacturing.

Lastly, when it comes to buying second hand bridesmaid dresses, you aren’t limited to what someone else deems to be suitable for the bridesmaid label. Browse our complete range of dresses to discover that there are plenty of gorgeous dresses suitable for bridesmaids which don’t actually carry the bridesmaid label. This opens up your choice and style options. More and more brides are allowing bridesmaids to choose their own dress in a broad colour palette, according to a style they like, so cast your net wide!

Know what to look for

The vast majority of preloved bridesmaid dresses are sold online, so there are some key things to look out for.

1. Look at lots of photos

Choosing items of second hand online can feel like a gamble. An important part of the process is to look at lots of photos from various angles. If you’d like more photos than are provided in the listing, don’t hesitate to contact the seller. This is still an important purchase. Particularly ask for photos of any damage. It can also be helpful to have close-up shots of detailing and of a section of the main seams. This allows you to determine quality.

2. Be clear about sizes

Bridesmaid dress sizing in the UK can be complex. Many dresses are originally brought in from America, with different sizing. Others are imported from elsewhere, and some are made to measure. Therefore, don’t simply cast a glance at the listed size, but seek out detailed measurements.

A good rule of thumb is that bringing in a dress a size or two is fair game for a competent seamstress. Letting a dress out is tricky and sometimes impossible – this should be avoided. Err on the side of caution when buying online and be aware that it’s very common to need adjustments made for a perfect fitting dress. Budget for the alterations!

3. Be clear on colours

Brides are generally more open to broader colour palettes at the moment, with a trend for bridesmaid dresses to complement each other rather than strictly match. However, it’s still important to be aware of colours when buying online. This is particularly true if, as is often the case, you’re choosing a fabric with sheen. These are hard to photograph and get the colours accurately reflected.

This is when platforms, such as kathywilliamsmarketing, which use professional fashion photography tools and techniques are worth their weight in gold. You can be sure that colours are as accurately reflected as possible, like in a catalogue shoot.

4. Ask about imperfections

The dress has probably been worn for just one day so you should be able to expect it to be in near perfect condition – but make sure to check it has been dry cleaned. Indeed, some dresses may not have been worn for more than just a shoot, especially if it is an influencer selling a bridesmaid dress second hand.

However, it’s important that you know about any damage or imperfections before you buy second hand bridesmaid dresses. Reputable sellers should be honest and transparent. It’s another reason for choosing a reliable platform like kathywilliamsmarketing

5. Check the returns process

Returns processes are often quite different for preloved and second hand items. Feel confident in your purchase by looking at the returns process before you click buy.

Where to buy second hand bridesmaid dresses

Former bridesmaids often wonder about where to sell second hand bridesmaid dresses and so they tend to be sold across a broad range of platforms. Common places to look for preloved bridesmaid dresses for sale include Etsy, eBay, Bridal Reloved and ASOS Marketplace. You can also find bridesmaid dresses for sale on Instagram and other social media selling platforms.

Your number one first stop should be kathywilliamsmarketing. Keep an eye out as we constantly get new pieces from influencers and late summer and autumn are excellent times for preloved bridesmaid dresses coming onto our shelves.

Where to sell second hand bridesmaid dresses?

Are you looking at selling a bridesmaid dress second hand? Hopefully the above buyer’s guide will help you out with some insider tips. If you are an influencer, you can sell with us! We handle the entire sales process for you, even collecting the items from you.

Choosing a preloved bridesmaid dress is exciting and makes you feel good for the pennies saved and the green credentials.

Samira Mighty Linen

As temperatures rise, it’s time to invest in some breathable linen clothing that makes you look great and feel confident – without worrying about feeling hot and bothered. Linen is a versatile and cool fabric, perfect for summer looks from smart wedding wear to casual beach vibes.

Whether you’re looking for crisp white linen trousers, a stylish linen blazer or simply need some help deciding what to wear with a linen suit – you’ve come to the right place.

Stay cool in the summer heat with our kathywilliamsmarketing guide to wearing linen:

Where does linen come from?

Linen is made from the fibres from the stem of the flax plant and has been used to create clothes for at least 10,000 years. Flax plants are commonly grown in Eastern Europe and China, but also increasingly in Western Europe and India. As such, linen is a natural fibre that can – with some careful sourcing – be sustainable and less harmful to the planet than many synthetic fibres.

The best quality linen uses the longest fibres, which have been harvested by hand before being turned into linen clothes, curtains, and upholstery. It’s possible to tell the quality of linen simply by looking at and feeling the fabric.

How to wear linen trousers

With a little know-how, it’s easy to rock the linen look. If you’ve never worn linen before, start with a simple, classic pair of navy linen trousers and keep things casual with a plain tee. Linen trousers also look great when teamed with a cropped top to show off a slice of tanned tummy.

Alternatively, opt for drawstring paperbag linen trousers with a cami and a cardigan for cool evenings, as rocked by our VIB and fashion influencer Ingrid Wilkinson.

Want to know what to wear with white linen trousers? Take a leaf out of actress Katie Holmes’s style book and pair them with a crochet vest top, fedora and flip-flops for a cool summer vibe. Just think carefully about where to wear them as white trousers can be a little tricky. An Indian summer BBQs where you’ll be perched on a friend’s worn picnic bench probably isn’t the best occasion!

The shoes you chose to accompany your linen trousers can make or break your outfit – but you can never go wrong with a lightweight pair of espadrilles or some simple slip-on ballet pumps. Want a dressier look? Team cigar-cut linen trousers with some chunky block heels for summer style and chic comfort. All in all, we find adding some height with linen trousers tends to complete the look.

Linen trousers do require you to make friends with your iron. But don’t worry, the slightly crumpled look works with linen in a way it doesn’t with most other fabrics, by adding a slight Boho chic feel!

Can you wear linen in the evening?

Linen isn’t just for wearing during the day – although it is definitely a favourite for warm daytime events. There are plenty of linen dresses designed for glamorous evenings and hot summer nights. Brands such as Karen Millen, Matthew Williamson, Zara and Allsaints all have a range of affordable linen evening wear just waiting to be dressed up with oversized accessories and a chic clutch.

Check out our favourite preloved linen dresses and get ready to party in comfort and style. Pick these dresses when you won’t be crammed into a taxi so that you can arrive looking gorgeous.

Does linen shrink?

Linen can shrink between 2%– 7% upon its first wash, and the last thing you want to do is ruin your lovely linen clothing after just one wear, so keep this in mind.

Pre-washing linen garments in cold water can help to reduce shrinkage and using low temperatures of under 40 degrees Celsius, or a cool handwash cycle can also maintain the shape and fit of your linen.

Of course, when you buy preloved items from kathywilliamsmarketing, one of the benefits is that any shrinkage has already happened and the clothes won’t be shrinking on your watch!

Does linen crease?

Linen is comfortable, cool, and chic, but it does have one drawback – it creases easily. But it really isn’t too much of an issue if you know a few tricks about how to keep linen wrinkle-free.

 • When washing linen clothing, don’t overload the washing machine as too many clothes in the drum is a recipe for crinkled clothes.
 • Once the washing cycle is finished, remove linen clothes, shake out the creases and hang them immediately to dry.
 • Iron linen clothing while it is still slightly damp to steam out any wrinkles. If you need to reinvigorate a linen item, spritz it with water and re-iron.

If you are still worried about looking ‘crumpled’ choose a structured linen blazer which will keep its shape much better than soft shirts or trousers. But honestly, we love the crumpled linen look too.

Can you wear linen in the winter?

We’ve been raving about what great material linen is for summer clothes, but equally, you should never relegate your favourite linens to the back of your wardrobe once the temperatures drop.

Linen also helps to keep you warm in colder weather as it’s a temperature-regulating fabric that keeps you cool in summer, yet warm in winter. We suggest layering up a linen dress with thick tights or adding a long-sleeved top under a linen blazer to maximise the wear you get from your linen clothing – come rain, hail or shine.

Preloved linen from our kathywilliamsmarketing VIBs

There really are no rules about wearing linen, and if you feel comfortable and confident you’ll look red hot in linen while keeping your cool in the heatwave, or be the most glamorous person in the depths of winter.

From earthy, neutral tones for a Boho vibe to bright, bold linen dresses for a summer party, check out the latest preloved linen looks from our influencers, bloggers and VIBs.

We recommend stealing the linen look of fashion illustrator Tuula Rose, or TOWIE star Ferne McCann who are sharing their love of linen in their kathywilliamsmarketing shops.

Styling Flirty Florals

Say it with flowers this summer with flirty, fun florals. There are so many reasons that you should boast a floral item in your wardrobe – they are feminine, fabulous, and surprisingly versatile. From delicate daisies dancing across floaty skirts to intensely daring palazzo pants boasting tropical blooms, florals are a striking way to style.

But often people steer away from bold botanical prints as they are unsure how to style them. Fear creeps in and people choose safe plains. We want to show you that florals are easy to style with a little know-how. So read on and get ready to rock floral prints this summer.

How to style a floral dress

Styling a floral dress on a summer’s day is easy – choose a floaty maxi dress and let the bold pattern do the talking. Team with simple sandals, minimal accessories and oversized sunnies for a relaxed look. If you prefer a grungier vibe, swap the sandals for biker boots, and add a denim jacket. Avoid adding in patterns elsewhere. So if the weather means you need to reach for a cardi, make it a plain one.

Wearing a floral dress to an evening event can prove a little trickier – but the key to bossing a floral dress is the style you choose. Rather than a boho-style maxi dress, opt for a floral mini dress for a big night out, or a swing dress that oozes cuteness. Who says that florals need to be banished from nights out?!

How to wear florals for a wedding

Flirty florals are ideal for a summer wedding and are guaranteed to bring a touch of colour to the day – without stealing the bride’s thunder! Indeed, we’d argue that a wedding is one place where you can eat your heart out with florals and there’s no such thing as too much!

And while we’re talking about what to wear without upsetting the bride – we’re often asked: ‘can you wear a white floral dress to a wedding?’ Sure, you can! A floral dress with a white background is perfectly acceptable, as long as the floral pattern is clearly visible. Just make sure there’s some colour and styling that’s different from a bridal gown and all is good.

Want some floral dress inspiration for a summer wedding? Steal the style of Amanda Holden, who recently rocked a stunning Dolce & Gabbana sequined floral dress at the BGT live semi-finals.

What shoes to wear with a floral dress?

Picking the right shoes to wear with a floral outfit is easier than you might think, and to prove it here are some of our favourite floral / footwear combos:

Trainers: Yep, trainers really do work with everything! Team a dazzling white pair of sneakers with a bold floral print dress for laid-back chic. You can be comfy and feminine; it just works.

Sandals: Flat, wedged or heeled sandals – the choice is yours. Either opt for a neutral colour that doesn’t detract from the dress or pick an accent colour from your floral frock and match your sandals to it.

Ballet pumps: Our go-to-shoe for pairing with florals. Ballet pumps are comfortable, a little dressier than sandals or trainers – and have the added benefit of covering your toes if you’ve not had time to paint them! Ballet pumps work beautifully with florals and add to the summery chic look you’re after.

Biker boots: Get the Courtney Love look by teaming a floral maxi dress with chunky black biker boots and unleash your inner rebel. We promise it works and once you’ve done it once, you won’t look back.

What accessories go with florals?

We are often asked about accessories and florals and the truth is that it depends on the size of the floral print. Big, bold designs work best with understated accessories, so keep things simple with your jewellery and pair accessories with one of the accent colours in your outfit.

Smaller floral prints are more forgiving when it comes to accessorising them and can take a statement necklace or bracelet, with a clutch bag in a contrasting colour.

If in doubt, we advise keeping accessories neutral. Tan is a great colour that will work with most floral outfits, so if you are keen to include florals in your wardrobe, add a tan handbag and sandals to your shopping list.

How to wear floral trousers

We know many people who steer away from flower print trousers for fear of looking childlike rather than chic, but when you know what items to combine them with, you’ll be jumping on board this fun summer fashion trend.

Wearing wide-legged floral trousers with a simple black shirt tucked in at the waist gives a sophisticated style and an office-friendly vibe for work. Lazy BBQs and summer drinks are ripe for jersey palazzo trousers with exotic summer flowers paired with a simple plain tee. Or for trews with a large flower print, keep things simple with a plain white tee and a neutral blazer.

What to wear with floral boots?

If all-over-floral is not your style, then start small with some funky floral shoes or boots. Emphasise floral ankle boots with a pair of cropped skinny jeans, white shirt and blazer to make a bold statement while staying ultra-casual.

A plain t-shirt dress with embroidered floral boots is a great summer look too. It sets an edgy vibe, while the loose-fitting dress will keep you looking and feeling cool in the summer sun.

Get flirty with florals this summer

Whether you prefer bold florals from head to toe, or smaller, ditsy-printed flowers paired with block colours or denim, it’s easy to flash the flowers and look blooming fantastic this season.

Swimwear Brands for Every Body Type

Our social media feeds are filling up with images of sun-kissed celebrities and hacks on ‘how to get a beach-ready body in just three weeks’. The pressure is on, but so is the inspo! For most of us, it’s already a daunting prospect to pull on our swimsuits, without the added pressure of the media telling us that our bodies need to be flawless. You’re not alone in feeling it’s a moment of joy AND fear!

We’re here to reassure you that every body is a beach-ready body – and by choosing the right swimwear brand for your body type, you’ll rock the beach this summer. Put the pressure on the beachwear, not on yourself!

From the best swimwear brands for curvy figures to swimwear brands for small or large busts, we’ve got a range of fabulous bikinis and swimsuits to suit all body types.

Luxury swimwear brands

A little luxury in your beachwear can be all you need to boost your confidence – whatever your body type. These items are designed to look glamorous and will draw the eye. Prestige swimwear brand Faithfull The Brand is one of our favourite swimwear labels offering all your need to hit the beach and strut your stuff.

Check out Gigi C swimwear for another luxury brand that features highly on our swimwear lust list. It’s the go-to brand for women who want glamour and style without sacrificing comfort. You’ll feel confident and keen to show off your beach body even when you previously doubted yourself in the mirror!

Best swimwear brands for curvy figures

If you are looking for beautiful and flattering plus-size swimwear options, then browse our discounted swimwear brands from kathywilliamsmarketing body-positive influencers including Tally Sharp and Isabella Duder, who rock plus-size swimwear brands including Fashionova and Freya.

Boohoo is also a great choice for curvy swimwear – take a look at Andrea Da Silva’s preloved wardrobe for bikini inspiration that’s both sassy and supportive in the areas you need it the most. Don’t let plus size put you off bikinis, or send you down the road of covering up. Embrace your curves and rock plus-size swimwear with confidence.

Best petite swimwear brands

For those of you with a petite figure, take a look at Prettylittlething for a range of swimwear that includes bandeau bikini tops and a fiery orange knotted style bikini that will get heads turning.

Our must-have addition to your summer wardrobe is these Prettylittlething beach flares that will take you from poolside to partying. You’ll be looking for excuses to wear them and may just need to invite everyone over just for the excuse! Team them with your favourite bikini top and a statement bracelet for an on-point look this summer. You’ll be the star of the show and look fabulous.

High-waist bikini bottoms and triangle bikini tops look great on a petite frame and Myra Swim swimwear has plenty of styles that all have an edgy nineties feel – allowing you to confidently boss a retro beachwear vibe – and get a golden glow in all the right places. These bikini combos also work exceptionally well for simply moving from beach to bar, with little more than the addition of a glamorous hat.

Swimwear brands for large bust

If the thought of searching for swimwear that supports bigger boobs fills you with dread, then check out our recommendations for swimwear brands that deliver on style and support without compromise.

ASOS have a range of brilliant beachwear brands that cater to the needs of ladies with a bigger bust – our favourite is this square-necked denim-style bikini in a geo-print that provides support from the straps while oozing seaside-style.

Underwired bikini tops provide additional support for a large bust, but they are often pretty pricey. However, some online stores and high street retailers including All Peace, Missguided and Pour Moi all have underwired bikini options which won’t break the bank. Save even more by browsing these top brands for preloved underwired bikini tops from celebs such as actress Louisa Lytton and travel blogger Emma Corrie-Hill.

Sustainable swimwear brands

No matter what your body type is, we are increasingly turning towards eco-friendly clothing ranges – and swimwear is no exception. You want your ethics to match your styling choices, even at the beach or the pool.

But can you stay stylish, yet sustainable, when it comes to beachwear? The answer is ‘yes’ – you just need to know which swimwear brands support sustainability.

We Are We Wear prioritises an ecological approach to fashion with its swimwear, utilising fabrics made from materials like fishing nets, industrial plastics and fabric scraps that would otherwise end up in landfill sites. It’s clever stuff and you’ll look and feel beautiful.

Another brand that ticks the boxes for those searching for sustainable swimwear is Faithfull The Brand, which uses regenerated nylon and recycled fibre to give the garments the comfort and flexibility that you expect from swimwear – while protecting the planet.

From the beach to the coolest cocktail bar…

After a day soaking up the sun, cool off in the cocktail bar without the hassle of getting changed, by throwing on a cover-up.

Whether you prefer an oversized, floaty kaftan, a flirty playsuit, or a crochet cover-up mini dress, we have plenty of choices to suit your style and body type. It’s the easiest ‘getting ready’ ever.

Shop swimsuits for all body types

As with any garment, swimwear comes in many designs to flatter different figures – and the most important thing is that you feel happy and confident in what you choose. Your body is amazing just the way it is – and we promise you’ll feel a whole lot better about putting on your swimsuit when you feel good in a swimsuit that suits your body type.

From bikini tops for fuller busts to swimwear brands that get extra points for sustainability, our kathywilliamsmarketing swimwear shop has all you need to make this summer’s swimwear choice your best ever.

Kaz Crossley at Glastonbury. Guide to festival outfits

Festivals are officially back! Glastonbury has already kicked things off and we’ve got an exciting summer ahead with festivals such as Bestival, Field Day and Latitude, as well as plenty of other options. From festival fun with the family to the messy affairs with friends where the party doesn’t stop, it’s festival season and we love it!

If you’ve got tickets to a summer festival, then it’s time to start planning your festival wardrobe – and we’ve got all the inspo you need to rock all kinds of looks, from boho festival outfits to neon and glitter-clad glamour! We’ll have you feeling at home, whatever the festival vibe.

Getting creative with our outfits is one of the things we love most about the build-up to attending a festival. So we’ve gathered together our favourite festival-inspired fashion ideas from our kathywilliamsmarketing bloggers and influencers to team with your dancing shoes! It’s time to get excited and get planning! Read on for your festival outfit inspo.

Boho festival outfits

You’ll never go wrong with a boho-inspired festival outfit. The funky look has been nailed and updated at plenty of festivals over the years by celebs such as Kate Moss, Vanessa Hudgens and Alexa Chung. It’s classic, it’s expected and it works.

Team a flowing maxi dress with a cowgirl hat if you’d like to cover up from the summer heat – or dare to bare by slinging a crochet top over a vest and rocking the look with faded Daisy Duke denim shorts and a statement chunky necklace. Add a flower in your hair and embrace your laid-back inner hippy chick! Boho works – it was pretty much born on the festival circuit and will have you feeling right at home.

Neon festival outfits

Festivals are all about standing out from the crowd and getting noticed, and by choosing a neon outfit you’re certainly going to be the centre of attention. Neon rocked us in the 1980s, but it is back with a vengeance and we love that we’ll be seeing lots of it at festivals up and down the country this summer.

Flaunt the neon vibe with an electric blue mini dress, or fiery orange bikini top paired with ripped jeans and add cute pigtails, luminous makeup, and jewelled face gems for full-on festival funkiness. It’s cool, it’s striking and we love it.

Sequin festival outfits

We don’t think there is such a thing as too many sequins – and festivals are the best place to sparkle and shine in style. A festival is the one place you can stand in a field in sequins, and somehow it just works.

Steal the style of celebs such as Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez who have both slipped into high-waisted sequin shorts, or get funky in a 70s-style sequin jumpsuit. Check out our preloved sequin jumpsuits and dresses from Celebs Go Dating star Tallia Storm and find your new favourite festival outfit.

90s festival outfits

Feeling nostalgic? The Nineties was an awesome decade for fashion – and the style is back with a bang for the festival scene this summer. Indeed, the 1990s is the new retro style that’s nudging its way into our consciousness. Whether you were a grungy Gwen Stefani fan or a wannabe Spice Girl, relive your youth with a Nineties-inspired festival outfit. If it’s all new to you then have fun!

We’re talking minis skirts, cropped tops, cargo pants or bossing it like Scary Spice in a whole load of leopard print.

Black festival outfits

If you prefer a more mysterious or understated festival look, then you’ll never go wrong with head-to-toe black. Black jumpsuits are incredibly flattering for all body types, so you can show off your curves confidently while dancing the day (and night) away to your favourite bands.

White festival outfits

You might be thinking that white isn’t the most practical colour for wearing in a muddy field – but hey, it might not rain. After witnessing Florence Welsh oozing elegance in a sheer white dress at Glastonbury a few years back, we’re willing to give it a try.

The Florence and the Machine singer teamed her ankle-skimming dress with practical walking boots – ideal for protecting your toes if you want to make your way to the front of the crowd and hang out by the stage.

Bright festival outfits

Pack your shades – things are getting colourful with this selection of bright and beautiful festival outfits. From rainbow-coloured trousers to colourful accessories that will add a pop of colour to your festival wardrobe, our kathywilliamsmarketing VIBs will brighten your day with a choice of funky festival colours.

Check out more brightly coloured pre-loved fashion ideas from BGT judge Amanda Holden.

Plus-size festival outfits

Choose a killer plus-size festival outfit and head centre stage in a floaty dress teamed with an edgy leather jacket and biker boots. Complete the look with a funky fedora and statement shades.

Check out Jac Jossa’s range for more curvy fashion inspiration or grab a preloved bargain festival outfit from fashion blogger Danielle Vanier.

Children’s festival outfits

There are plenty of family-friendly festivals taking place this summer, so if you’re taking little ones to enjoy their first festival, we’ve got plenty of kid’s festival outfit ideas that will allow them to soak up the atmosphere while looking adorable!

Shop the preloved kid’s clothing of reality star Fern McCann’s daughter, and Made in Chelsea’s Millie Mackintosh’s two children.

Festival Footwear

We are not ones to be pessimistic – but based on the weather over recent summers, things might just get muddy – so it’s best to be prepared with the right footwear.

Biker boots are practical and are also totally on-trend with the festival vibe whatever the weather. If the weather is kind, wedged sandals are a comfortable choice – and they also add a couple of inches to your height so you might just see the stage better. Add a slick of bright nail varnish and you’re ready to rock!

Love Island Outfits Amber & Kem

Love Island – everyone’s favourite dating show – returned to our screens earlier this month. We’re already anticipating another sizzling summer of love in the villa as this year’s Islanders search for their perfect match. It’s a chance to get lost in the drama of other people and become a fly on the wall of relationships.

But it’s not all about trying to find their soulmate – we also love to see what outfits the Islanders are wearing. For us, it’s a chance to check out the latest styles, what’s in fashion, and get ideas for our own wardrobes.

So, if you are as excited as we are to see the clothes the cast wear and what outfits will be influencing our summer wardrobes, read on for some Love Island clothing inspiration and the chance to grab your own preloved wardrobe from some of our favourite Islanders over the years.

Who is the clothing sponsor for Love Island this year?

This year’s Love Island clothes sponsor is eBay, and for the first time, the cast’s wardrobe consists of pre-loved clothing only, in a bid to step away from the ‘fast fashion’ collaborations it has been associated with in the past. We love the concept and the show’s values this year are right in line with our own!

The new partnership has been ushered in after controversy over the previous sponsor I Saw It First’s association with fast fashion, which had been criticised for encouraging a disposable attitude toward clothing. We can all take steps to choose preloved items which last, and it’s great that such a big show is making strides in the right direction to support the movement of making your wardrobe more sustainable.

We’re delighted to see that Love Island is tackling the issues of fast fashion and encouraging its audience to follow suit.

Bikinis and swimwear

We love the swimwear this season – it’s always the star of the show and catches our eye! We especially love the zingy lime green bikini that Indiyah opted for which she stylishly teamed with oversized sunnies. Amber has also been hotting things up in the swimwear stakes with a velour green bikini which she wore during the Islanders’ first challenge of the series.

We’re predicting that the brightly coloured bikinis favoured by the cast will be big on the beaches this summer, so get yours before you jet away on your holiday. You’ll stand out and dazzle!

From an almost-identical lime green bikini to the one Indiyah rocked, to sunshine yellow swimsuits that bring a pop of colour to summer, we’ve got a host of stylish swimwear to choose from – all inspired by this year’s Love Island clothing.

Check out 2019 winner Amber-Rose Gill’s kathywilliamsmarketing collection for more Love Island style swimwear.

Dresses to impress

The Islanders know they need to create a bombshell entrance when they arrive on the show, and we reckon Indiyah nailed it with the preloved turquoise cut-out dress that she wore on the launch night. It was clearly a statement she was after and that’s what she achieved. It’s rocked the media since!

Thanks to some sexy styling from the Islanders, the cut-out dress is making a comeback, so if you are keen to show off your golden glow this summer, then take a look at our cut-out collection inspired by Indiyah’s showstopping outfit. Wear it yourself at this summer’s parties and you’ll feel like the star of the show.

We’re also in love with Tasha Ghouri’s style – along with avidly following her coupling up with Andrew. The 23-year-old Islander made a big impact with the stunning white halterneck dress she wore on the second evening in the villa. Stylish and beautiful!

Tasha has also rocked our favourite outfit so far this season with a studded brown leather second-hand dress from Bershka. We’ve got some pretty identical dupes of this bodycon dress that you can team with a pair of killer heels for summer parties and special occasions.

Afia Tonkmor may have been the first contestant to leave the villa after a dramatic recoupling left her and Paige single, but there is no denying she made a striking entrance when she arrived in a slinky green ruched dress. Grab a similar outfit from the preloved wardrobe of Stephanie Lam, who featured in the 2018 season and now enjoys a huge following on Instagram.

Cargo trousers

Gemma Owen wowed her fellow Islanders by tapping into the slim-fit cargo trousers trend when she wore a tailored cream pair from Femme Luxe. It’s a fabulous and bold look and one we’re sure will hang around.

The cargo pants look has also been rocked by plenty of big-name influencers and celebs including Dua Lipa and Bella Hadid – so you’ll be in good company if you steal Gemma’s cargo trouser look this summer with a pre-loved pair. It’s easy to dress up and dress down too.

Jumpsuits

Jumpsuits have been making us happy for the last few summers and we’re glad they are here to stay. Nothing shows off a golden summer glow better than a white jumpsuit – and Gemma knows it! Her choice of clothing turned heads in the villa and if you’re keen to steal her style, we’ve got a similar range of the Love Island star’s jumpsuit ready for you to purchase.

Want more preloved Love Island clothing inspo?

Now you’ve discovered all the latest Love Island looks, all that’s left to do is fluff up your cushions, get settled on the sofa and enjoy the end of the season of stalking the Islanders for their style secrets while devouring the drama. Pass the popcorn!

Summer Makeup Looks Kaz Crossley

You’ve swapped your
winter wardrobe for lighter, airier clothes – but have you also considered switching up your beauty routine for a fresh summer makeup look? It’s a seasonal switch that doesn’t just make sense, it’s exciting too. With the heatwave in full swing, it’s definitely time to consider some summer makeup looks.

If you’re finding your makeup feels heavy or it’s melting from your face in the heat – you are not alone. The good news is that it’s easy to make the switch to a soft, summer makeup look. You just need to know what’s involved in a summery makeup approach and for that, we’ve got you sorted.

Read on to discover how to make makeup last all day in summer – plus some inspo for hitting the beach and summer party makeup looks too.

How to apply makeup in summer

Summer calls for fresh, flawless makeup that looks natural and effortless. Gone are the intense and warming looks of winter. Choose a light foundation, shimmering lips and eyes, and waterproof mascara for a stunning summer makeup look that can withstand humidity and heat. Summer makeup needn’t mean no makeup, but you’ll definitely want to go lighter.

For a minimal summer makeup look, here are our top makeup application tips for beating the summer heat:

 • Prep your skin by cleansing it with your regular cleanser and follow up with a moisturiser with built-in SPF protection. Your summer skin will stay hydrated and protected from harmful UV rays. SPF protection is important all year round but in summer it’s an absolute must-do.
 • Use a primer as a base for your makeup application. Choose one with hydrating properties as this will cool down the skin and stop your carefully applied cosmetics from sliding off your face. When you get hot later in the day, you’ll thank your morning self for spending an extra minute applying primer.
 • Use a light liquid foundation with a matte finish. Matte foundation will reduce shine and stand up to the heat much better than a glossy finish. Opt for light coverage and focus on blemishes and the T-zone rather than a full application over your whole face. Use a brush for application and it will be lighter.
 • Waterproof mascara and eyeliner will be your BFF in the summer months – and are an essential addition to your summer makeup toolkit to prevent ‘panda eyes’ on hot days.
 • Face powder is a must have to keep your makeup in place. They are great for oil control and to keep your makeup looking fresh – just make sure you only use it where you need it, to keep your makeup from becoming too heavy.
 • Keep eyeshadow to a minimum – as less is definitely more when it comes to summer eye makeup. Use a cream-based eyeshadow rather than a powdered one, as they tend to stay put better on humid days.
 • Finish the look with a slick of clear lip gloss to keep your pout hydrated and natural-looking. Lippy always has its place but in summer, lip gloss is the star of the show.

Setting sprays and mists for summer makeup

If you make only one change to your summer makeup routine – let it be ‘misting’.

A setting spray or mist provides the finishing touch to your makeup application and is an effective final step in a sweat proof summer makeup look. It feels fabulous to apply too, especially on a muggy hot day.

Pop a misting spray into your bag and use it throughout the day to refresh your makeup, cool your skin and boost hydration. Browse our full range of influencer-approved setting sprays designed to seal your makeup and set it in place for the whole day.

What makeup should I wear at the beach?

If you’d rather not hit the beach fresh-faced, there are a few handy hacks you can add to your beach makeup regime:

 • Keep in mind that a trip to the beach usually means your skin is exposed to sun, sand, and salt water, so choose products that contain a high SPF (25 or above). Look for ingredients such as glycerin and aloe vera to lock in moisture and form a barrier against pollutants.
 • To keep your lips completely kissable at the beach, use a moisturising lip balm to give your lips some shimmer without drying them out. Reapply regularly and pucker up!
 • Keep things simple and pare down your makeup look, as the last thing you want to worry about is touching up your face when you are soaking up the sun and relaxing. Try applying bronzer and a slick of lip gloss for a minimal beach-ready glow.
 • Take your photos early in the day. However carefully you apply your make-up, there is no magic bullet that can make it completely sea- and sweat-proof. If you want to strike a pose while looking your best, get your Insta-ready images before taking a dip in the sea!

Summer party makeup inspo

Pimms and lemonade, summer weddings and festivals are all the things we love about this season. So, if your diary is fully booked with summer parties and special occasions, you’ll want your makeup to be on point. We’ve rounded up a few of the best summer 2022 party looks to get you started:

 • Blue eyeshadow adds a splash of cool colour to a summer party look. Team with lashings of waterproof black mascara for peepers that truly pop. Blue is your summer eyeshadow go to.
 • Smoky eyes are always bang on-trend. Lighten up the look by swapping deep brown and black for grey and fawn eyeshadow for a summer take on this classic party look if you want something more sultry than blue.
 • Frosted lips were a big thing in the nineties – and the look has been freshened up for Summer 2022 with rose-toned lipsticks that will stay put for far longer than lip gloss. We love this summer look.

Ashley Roberts Sunglasses

We know you want to fall in love with
your next pair of sunnies! With so many different types of sunglasses to choose from though, it can be a bewildering and sometimes overwhelming choice.

As we head into the height of the summer months and sunshine holiday season, we’ve put together the complete guide to the different types of sunglasses, including frame shape and a sunglasses tint guide. We’ll have you looking and feeling glam in no time!

Especially when buying sunglasses online, it’s important to know what you’re looking for so that you can make sense of the types of sunglasses styles – and feel confident in your choice. So read on to know whether you’d best suit aviator or oversized, or whether you should go for yellow lenses, brown or pink.

Start by measuring your face

People tend to jump straight into a sunglasses size guide without actually understanding what size means. If you are considering what type of sunglasses you should wear, then your very first stop should be to measure your face and understand what the dimensions mean. The biggest determining factor as to which different sunglasses styles will suit you are these proportions.

So, grab yourself a mirror, a tape measure and something to jot your dimensions onto. You need to take four measurements:

 1. Measure from the corner of your mouth up to the earlobe. Repeat on both sides and jot down the average of the two measurements.
 2. Starting at one earlobe, measure around your jaw to the other earlobe.
 3. Starting from the middle of your hairline, measure straight down your nose to your chin (don’t worry about the curve of your nose).
 4. Lastly, measure the distance across your forehead, at the widest point between your hairline on the left and the right. This should be between your eyebrows and the top of your hairline.

Now you’ve got the information to determine your face shape.

What type of sunglasses for a diamond face shape?

If you’ve got a diamond or heart-shaped face then you have a wide forehead (measurement number four) tapering to the chin. You should choose sunglasses that are curvy in order to elongate your features. Ideal styles include aviators, cat’s eyes or butterfly style. You can also often carry rimless glasses well.

What type of sunglasses will suit a round face?

With a round face, the widest part of your face is across your cheekbones. Angular and boxy style sunglasses frames suit a rounder face as they appear slimming. Those with a round face can also carry oversized frames exceptionally well, but generally choose a more rectangular rim.

What type of sunglasses should I get with a square face?

If you have a strong jawline, a prominent forehead and wide cheekbones, you will find that softer curvier frames work well to balance your features. These are some of the best types of sunglasses for men. Oval or round styles work well. Women with square-shaped faces can also find they suit cat’s eye glasses.

Which type of sunglasses suits an oval face?

With an oval face, your features are symmetrical but with a slightly narrower chin. An oval face is amongst the most versatile and you can often take your pick of types of sunglasses and be happy with the look. Have fun with anything you fancy, from square or round frames to sports frames to aviators.

What type of sunglasses according to long face shapes?

If your face is longer (measurement number three) than it is wide (measurement number four) with a reasonably straight cheek line then it is likely you have a long face shape. You too can carry oversized frames. Steer clear of smaller frames.

Sunglasses lens colour guide

When it comes to types of sunglasses, it’s not just about the frame shape. Here we look at the different types of sunglasses lenses.

While you may want to choose from the different colours and types of sunglasses lenses to suit your complexion, outfit or mood, it’s best to choose the sunglass tint by what you are using the sunglasses for. Most importantly, sunglasses should protect your eyes from harmful UV radiation.

You can choose the following tints:

 • Grey: Good for everyday wearing and a common choice for versatility in all weather. They don’t change the colours of the things you are looking at.
 • Brown: Another good everyday option, brown lenses are particularly good for bringing sharpness to colour and depth on both sunny and cloudy days.
 • Green: Green lenses are good if light conditions are dulled.
 • Yellow: Yellow lenses look fun but they are only really useful as sunglasses in dim conditions. However, they do help to filter out blue light so can be used to ease eye strain from using screens.
 • Red: Red lenses offer additional contrast so are good for skiing.
 • Blue: Blue lenses are also good for snow conditions, but also when there is medium light intensity. However, they should be used for driving as they reduce light glare from oncoming traffic.

In addition, you may want to know about mirrored lenses. Mirrored lenses reflect back the light that hits the lens, helping to protect your eye from damage. This is particularly useful in glare conditions, such as skiing or watersports. They are also handy for shielding your eyes from view!

As well as the different tints, many sunglasses offer gradient tints. They should be darker at the top and then lighter at the bottom. This ensures maximum protection from the sun, but also makes them good for visibility with things like reading and driving.

Buy your new sunglasses with confidence

At kathywilliamsmarketing, we’ve got a large range of sunglasses for men and types of sunglasses for ladies. What’s more, as many come from your favourite fashion influencers, you can see how the styles look in action before deciding to buy them for yourself.

There are lots of different types of sunglasses for women and men, but it’s possible to confidently choose the types of sunglasses frames and tints that suit your face shape, style and wearing needs.

Travel Capsule Wardrobe Wes Nelson

We’ve all been there – spending hours packing a stuffed zipper-bursting suitcase with a travel wardrobe that effectively comprises every item in our already overstuffed home wardrobe. What’s worse, when we return and unpack, we discover that about 90% of it hasn’t even been worn. But we needed it, just in case! Or did we?

If you want holidays and business trips without the packing angst then knowing how to master the perfect travel wardrobe is a must. So, read on to learn how to create a capsule wardrobe for travel.

Why use a travel capsule wardrobe?

It’s not just the packing and unpacking difficulties that makes us desire a travel capsule wardrobe. You may want to avoid hold luggage fees or enjoy the ease of travelling with hand luggage only. Indeed, you may fear the horror stories of hold luggage going missing and not want to risk losing quite so much of your wardrobe!

It may be important that you aren’t weighed down, literally, by cumbersome baggage. It may be necessary to ensure that you have quick choice options for a business trip to London or want to mix and match summer options. There are so many compelling reasons to travel light.

The trick is to create a 10 piece travel wardrobe and master minimalist wardrobe travel. So, how do you do it?

1. Do your homework

The secret to how to build a capsule wardrobe for travel is all about planning. You can do the planning for your work travel capsule wardrobe sat at your desk, not the night before your business trip! Or you can enjoy dreaming up your perfect capsule wardrobe for summer travel on a bleak grey day in winter when you need a pick-me-up.

The primary consideration in creating a capsule wardrobe is to find out what the weather will be like at your destination. Get specific. You need to drill down into what the weather is usually in that exact spot at that time of year, but also what weather is being experienced there in the immediate lead up to the trip.

Next, consider if there are any cultural or business appropriate customs that need considering. Will you need to cover your head or shoulders in certain locations, for example? ? Does your business travel capsule wardrobe perhaps need to be more or less formal than what you usually wear to the office?

2. Get to know your itinerary

For your summer capsule travel wardrobe, don’t start formulating specific packing lists until you know if you’re planning to hike and canoe or sunbathe and dance. It’s a similar concept for your capsule wardrobe for work travel – you need to know what you will be doing and when.

Create an itinerary that provides an overview of what you will be doing on each day of the trip. This helps you to determine what clothes you will actually need rather than grabbing everything just in case. If you are aiming for a 10 piece travel wardrobe, this is particularly important.

Make sure you pay attention to the days spent travelling. When you move on to creating your packing list, these outfits serve as the base onto which you can add your further 10 pieces. Make sure to consider any specific business functions or leisure excursions. It’s also useful to consider your accommodation in line with your itinerary to determine how easy laundry will be.

3. Making your ultimate travel wardrobe list

You’re now ready to start making the list for your travel wardrobe. The idea is to choose items intentionally and minimally. They should be highly in line with your personal style, but to keep things compact, you will need to make some compromises towards classic styling and neutral palettes (you can use accessories to add pops of colour).

Importantly, your travel capsule wardrobe packing list will be unique – not just to you, but also to this trip. For example, a travel capsule wardrobe for an older woman on a business trip will differ from the same woman’s travel capsule wardrobe for a spring trip to Italy with friends.

Your travel capsule wardrobe essentials should be neutrals which are versatile. A good example is a sleeveless vest top that works paired with a suit for a business meeting that can be matched with jeans for evening drinks.

Your goal is to choose around 10 items that work together rather than 10 separate outfits. A good rule of thumb for most trips (but will need adjusting for season and type of trip) is two second-layers, four tops, two bottoms, one dress and one sweater. What you wear for travel is considered additional but should be used within the planning. Items such as swimwear, underwear, accessories and scarves aren’t included.

If, like most of us, you can’t think without visualising, lay out potential items on your bed and see how they work together. This will help to reveal gaps in what you’ve got.

4. Choose new items wisely

Even if you’ve got an overstuffed wardrobe at home, chances are that you are missing some crucial elements. When you start to consider a travel capsule wardrobe, you need each item to work with all of the others. That’s quite a tall order.

Having determined what you’ve got that works together and suits the trip, you can now see the gaps in your travel wardrobe. You will need to do some targeted shopping to fill these gaps. Be very specific with what you are looking for; for example, a blush-coloured blouse, ideally cotton, suitable for rolling up sleeves.

Shopping with this type of detailed list is very hard to do on an actual shopping trip. It can take hours! Here, online shopping is definitely your friend. Start at kathywilliamsmarketing for your pre-loved favourites and discover ample choices for your perfect travel wardrobe.

Once you’ve learned how to create a capsule wardrobe for travel, you’ll never look back –or sit on an overstuffed bursting suitcase – again!

Mend Own Clothes

With the cost of living continuing to rise, many fashion fans are getting creative and mending their own clothes to save money and still look stylish.

Saving money is not the only benefit of mending clothes, as it’s more sustainable to mend holes in clothes than replace them. Besides, there’s a lot of fun and satisfaction to be found by channelling your great-grandmother’s spirit and learning to Make Do and Mend!

If you’d like to learn how to mend clothes, but don’t know how to get started, then read on – all you need is a needle and thread and a little patience! Iif you don’t fancy getting handy with a sewing machine, we’ve even got a top tip on how to mend clothes without sewing.

How to repair a hem by hand

The stitching on hems coming undone is one of the most common garment mishaps – but it’s extremely easy to mend a hem with just a few pins, a needle, and thread. So, don’t ditch the item and don’t wonder when you’ll find the time to take it to the menders! Most hems can be repaired without the need for a sewing machine in just a few simple steps.

 1. Double-thread your needle with a thread that closely matches the colour of your fabric.
 2. Fold and pin the hem on the inside of your garment to keep the line straight while you are sewing.
 3. Use a blanket stitch to secure the hem and provide some stretch and flexibility.
 4. Iron the hem to press the crease into place and turn the garment the right way round.

Not confident with a needle? Don’t worry – there’s a ‘no-sew hack’ that we can share with you. Hemming tape is a wonderful little invention that secures a hem with a thin, double-sided strip of heat-activated tape.

Simply place the tape under the turn-up of the hem and iron into place – and hey presto – your hem will look as good as new. We find it doesn’t last forever, so you may need to do it more than once for your favourite items.

How to mend holes in clothes

There is nothing more frustrating than discovering a hole in your favourite knitwear or most comfortable pair of jeans – whether the moths have been at it, or an item has snagged in the wash or while being worn, your heart sinks when you spy a hole. But with a little know-how, your go-to-garments can be given a new lease of life.

Denim is easy to repair, and all you’ll need is a scrap of denim and thread that matches the colour of your jeans:

 1. Turn your jeans inside out and place the denim patch over the hole with a 2cm overlap to completely cover the tear.
 2. Stitch back and forth in vertical lines over the patch to secure the denim.
 3. Ensure you stitch over any frayed edges and trim back any loose threads to make the repair look neat and tidy.

For holes in woollen garments, darning is an effective way of mending a tear in clothing. It’s a technique that has been used for generations – and here’s how to do it:

 1. Thread your needle with matching yarn.
 2. Turn your garment inside out – always work on the side of your clothing that is not visible.
 3. Stitch across the tear in one direction by inserting the needle roughly 1 cm before the hole and the same distance beyond the hole.
 4. Don’t be tempted to tighten the stitches otherwise the fabric will snag or pucker.
 5. Complete the darn by weaving through the stitches to create a ‘woven net’ and securing the finished repair with a knot in the thread.

Darning is a quick and easy way to mend torn clothes, but the results can be visible, so it’s best applied in areas of clothing that are not on show.

If you want to know how to mend torn clothes without the repair looking obvious, then there is a technique known as ‘invisible mending’.

Invisible mending is an art perfected by tailors and seamstresses – and when correctly done the rip or tear is not distinguishable from the rest of the fabric. If your garment has sentimental value or you are not a confident seamstress, then it’s best to leave invisible repairs to the professionals who understand the wefts and weaves required to make the repair appear flawless.

Why is mending clothes important?

Reports have shown that we are wearing our clothes less than ever before; with the average number of times we wear an item decreasing by 36% over the last 20 years. It’s worryingly wasteful, before we consider that we could be throwing out our favourite items.

However, the slow fashion movement is fighting back against the throw-away clothing culture and repairing clothes is a fantastic way to support a more sustainable wardrobe.

Times are changing, and consumers are becoming increasingly aware of the impact of the fashion industry on the environment. Even mainstream TV shows such as Love Island are promoting sustainable fashion by only allowing this year’s contestants access to a wardrobe of pre-loved clothing.
